    Default Today's Fountain Pen Sketch

Hello all! I am new here.
I started dabbling in sketching with line and watercolor about a year ago which got me interested in fountain pens and journaling.
Now I am trying to sketch with just fountain pen, ink and ink wash. This is what I did today.

Exellent, pretend-avian! It's always good to see someone new around here.

What paper did you use for this, what weight?

Thank you christof, TSherbs and Kaputnik for the encouragement and welcome.

Kaputnik - this is a 150 gsm drawing book from Paper Republic. It is pretty good for watercolor and ink, but some inks feather on it, and if you put the ink on very thick or get it wet for a wash it will bleed through, so I only use one side of the paper.

Last week we spent some days in Saalbach Hinterglemm.
We took the cable car to the top of the 12er Kogel and sketched the mountains.

Recently I noticed the work of Ian Fenelly and looked at some of his Video demos.
I'm quite impressed from his technique, so I tried a piece also in that style.

Here it is, a Mercedes Benz W165 from 1939, it was designed especially for the Grand Prix in Tripoli to meet the regulations of that particular race (Vuiturette Class).
The rules of this race were changed from the italian organizers to break the German dominance of Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union.

It was derived from the bigger "regular" Mercedes W154 Grand Prix car of 1938-39 and developed in only 8 month.
You can say the W165 was the last of the the pre war Mercedes-Benz Silberpfeil racing cars.

It was used in only 1 race, the Grand Prix of Tripoli on 7. May 1939.

The plan of the italian organizers did not worked out, the W165 cars dominated the race.
Hermann Lang won the race in front of Rudolf Caracciola, both on Mercedes-Benz W165.

The second world war ended the carreer of the W165 after only one race.

An experiment, seeing what I could paint with only what's in this little watercolor "travel" kit.

Well, I used an HB pencil for an outline of the cowbird. And some water, of course.

    That's one handsome rooster @ptero.

I find lips difficult to draw. A bit off and an innocent smile turns into a disdainful smear

You are right lips and facial features in general are also for me difficult.
Often when I draw faces (where I intend a natural look) they look kind of off, or strange.
Using a raster for a portrait helps, but this does not help on a "normal" figure drawing where you can see the face.
When drawing figures sometimes I try to avoid faces, prefer to draw figures where you canīt see the face....... which will not help to improve.

Here is a my new one.
Has also a face but not a human one ....

Hi Ptero. Thanks for sharing your creative journey.
    Loved that Raven
I just wanted to show one of my quick sketches. It looks better from afar than closeup.
It was done with an EF nib on ( Polar Brown) on composition notebook.
    Size 8 cm by 6.
Still a long way to go but getting there....
