And here we have the last weekly Dojo sketch before the summer break.
There is no Judo training for my son the next two months.
Actually I enjoyed sketching on the visitor gallery of the Dojo, outside, away from a desk just holding the notepad in the fingers with a timelimit of maximum 1 hour.
As my son also enjoys Judo and will continue in Fall I will also continue.
This weekend I tried Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper the first time for a pastel drawing.
And it´s amazing, this makes so much difference compared to the normal/multi techniques paper I´ve used before.
The pigments of the pastels are holding perfectly in place on this paper, just awesome.
The only drawback is that it is quite expensive.
I´ve drawn a European crossed viper, one of the few venomous snakes in Austria, using my Stabilo Carbothello pastel pencils on Clairfontaine Pastelmat.
Today my son and I had another drawing session.
I´m trying to show him the basics of figure construction.
So we watched and followed together a tutorial from Marcel´s channel "Drawing like a Sir".
Drawing women right - Anatomie for Beginners.
I like his videos, he is drawing normally Manga style.
Junior like his channel because it´s a german speaking one, so he also can understand it
Afterwards we inked and colored our basic figure differently.
Very nice. I'm too impatient too, which is why I don't use pencil/graphite etc. Pen is much quicker unless it's biro which is almost as slow as pencils
Today I´ve tried a (for me) new paper, Clairefontaine Ingres 130g/m2.
This paper has quite a lot of structure, but this is why it is called Ingres paper and it is quite thin
It was not a bad experiense, but the rough structure made it at least for me not that easy to apply the pigments to the valleys of the structure.
The paper was able to take several layers of color, so I can´t say it is a bad pastel paper.
That the structure is still visible in the final picture is expected, and I guess if you use Ingres paper intended.
But for me Clairefontaine Pastelmat plays in a different league than Ingres.
Blending on Pastelmat is easy peasy, no structures, and I was impressed how it hold the pigments, no fixative is really needed on that paper.
Is Ingres a good pastel paper? I would say yes
Is it my favorite pastel paper? No
First I sketched it with a 2 mm blue Staedtler clutch pencil, then made the outlines with a Pentel Pocket Brush (I like those really as the the brush gives a lot of dynamic to the line art).
The base color layer was done with Pit Artist Pens Brush, afterwards I finished the drawing with some accents using Polychromos pencils.
We spent a couple of days in the Thermal Spa Parktherme in Styria (Austria).
We enjoyed our stay a lot and I can recommend the Thermal Spa, it´s great there.
In the Sauna Garden we sketched a bit between the Sauna sessions , I think this would be commonly called urban sketching.
My wife, my son and I are enthusiastic Sauna fans.
Left you can see the Sauna area separated from the Thermal spa on the right side.
What I can also recommend if you visit Styria some time is a visit at the Riegersburg including the bird of prey demonstration at the Greifvogelwarte Riegersburg, both is impressive.
Some fairly recent ones from me, I get a bit behind posting on here because I post daily to my blog and Instagram and then lose track of what I've uploaded where the blog is at https://sketchingonthetrain.wordpress.com still if your interested in more.
