Remember doing homework on the kitchen table....? That is where I do most of my writing at home. Using electronics, proped on my lap on the couch.

LOL!! ....Wow. Been there. Had a whole room like that.
Two years ago I started taking a monthly photo of my artboard (the place I do all my drawing/writing at)...which is not to be confused with my computer desk (which is an old diningroom table and slightly more a case of organized chaos) ~ yes I have so much crap I have TWO desks. They are side by each...but for purposes of 'ink use', back to my artboard. I take a photo and post the 'State of the Desk' online every month, to force me to rein in the madness and not allow my inner slob to get out of control. It's like showing the contents of your closet to friends and family every month...on a set date. The result has been that my creativity has gone up, waaaaay up....because I have no excuses like, 'well first I have to clean up this space'.

I wish I had two desks. I have a computer station which currently looks like the maw of Hell and a dining room table which fills up as soon as I empty it.
I have reached several conclusions recently. One is that I actually need a real office - one with a filing cabinet, sufficient library shelves and a desk the size of my dining room table. If I had that, my multiple office-y type projects would have somewhere to live and so would the rest of us.
The second is that my inner slob is the wellspring of my super powers and must be nurtured and protected and called the sort of sweet names Gollum called his jewelry...
ARE YOU MY BROTHER?! I told you, I would help you shred!
I don't have room for a proper desk, so I use a lapdesk (cushion on the lap-side, flat plastic work surface up top -- using it now), and I have a small patio table that works as surface area for books and notebooks and glasses (both kinds) and such and a cool utility cart for the pen valise, box of inks, some projects (actually, I call it my Projects Cart). No photos at the moment, cos busy -- and photos would require moving things around, and I'm trapped under this lapdesk. Hehe.

It's a reproduction oak roll top that I purchased in the late 1970's.

The Hoff is more likely to be seen in south Wales than my little corner! Although there has been filming for various films nearby, including a Tomb Raider 2 (?) film I have not seen.
Floor is looking a bit tidier. Now to organise my desk properly and then get on with some letter replies - there are bags of letters from all my correspondents with their latest letters wanting replies in that jute bag!
I'd love to have your desk rather than my bureau Hawk! The bureau isn't bad, especially as I paid either ten or fifteen quid for it about 3 years ago from a charity shop. Back then, it looked like:

An antique roll top desk is neat to have. One can hide ones mess (usually) by closing the top thereby hiding the disorganization. Finding a good antique that one can afford convinced me to purchase the reproduction.

Hey, I never said it wasn't real. That's what makes it unusual.
