Default Any vintage Conway Stewart experts out there?

    Good morning to you all,

I recently acquired this wonderful BCHR Conway Stewart fountain pen. It required the usual things, a new sac, a good flush, etc...

It has the large Conway Stewart shield on the lever as well as what looks to be an older version of the Conway Stewart logo on the clip. This being my first Conway Stewart I was hoping to find out some more about it. It has no barrel imprints save for No.575M on the blank part between the chasing. Being a BCHR I assume it's a 1920's/30's model but I know some companies fought the celluloid powerhouse as long as they could so this may be an inaccurate guess.

A run through Google has turned up next to nothing so I was wondering if it may be a seldom seen model.

I would appreciate any and all advice.

    Paul

Hello Paul, nice to see you in here. Sorry I can't help with the CS, except to say that CS did not resist the change.

Hi Paul, you may want to ask Deb (this is her user name), she's the resident expert on vintage pens from England.

The other people who may know are regulars at the London meets - Cob and Peterg, both on this forum.
The pen looks in superb condition; is it a lever fill?
Some days, it's hardly worth chewing through the leather straps....

Yes it is a lever filler. It has a very large spoon on the lever end. It has a lollipop profile to be honest. I'll post a photo of the lever and nib shortly. It's in near immaculate condition. Not a spot on the metalwork and the BHR is still coal black and glossy. I can still see heat rollover from the chasing. To be honest I think this pen was used once, boxed and then never used again.

A bit of an oddity as an M after the number usually means "mottled" which clearly this pen isn't. A lot of those numbers starting with 5 are "Dinkies" ( small) which this isn't. CS sold pens under many names and some had CS clips and levers so this may be in that category, certainly the Empire Pen 131 is very similiar. A mystery pen !!

    Regards
    Hugh

Thank you Hugh for your information. Once I have a better camera set up I'll get you some half decent pictures. I'm not sure if the box that the pen came with is original but it did proclaim the following information.

The "Peerless" Lever-Filler fountain pen, 14-carat gold nib, made in England.

Of course every time I put Peerless fountain pen I get the modern Cross pen of the same name.
