Correct, Ajahn Chah was Jack Kornfield's teacher in Thailand as well as the teacher of many other Western monks. Ajahn Chah is definitely one on the largest influences on Western Buddhism. That broken cup event is told many different ways - the one I quoted is in one of Jack Kornfield's books. (Mainly because it's a short version that I wouldn't have had any problem fitting on one page. )
