The clues:

The first quote was the entry verse of "The Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert Service. The clue was the phrase "There are strange things done in the midnight sun" - I was hinting at "midnight". It went on to mention the queer sights of the Northern Lights, and the hint here is that can include the brilliant shade (along with others) of deep green or emerald.

I got the reasoning but the samples of midnight emerald that I saw didnt look at all like your sample to me: yours looked blue, so I discounted this answer. But no matter!
