    No and nada.

This ink is not from South Korea, the Philippines or Taiwan.

    None of the above.

    It isn't a Japanese ink.

Really great guesses, but . . . no to all.

And you know this particular ink fairly well.

This is NOT a Private Reserve ink, nor a Diamine ink.

Last hint - and this should get it:

This ink is NOT advertised on most major pen/ink websites. It isn't obscure, however, with several reviews and discussions on other blogs.

It's not Waterman Absolute Brown is it?

I keep going back and forth from your photo if it is brown or burgundy. And I'm feeling stupid if it's an ink that I should know well, but that's the one non-European or Japanese ink that's coming to mind for me in that color palette...plus a lot of the big pen vendors don't sell Waterman ink.

    It is not Waterman Brown.

I would consider it a burgundy. Perhaps my photo makes it look a bit browner than it is. It was a very dreary day when I took the photo.

    It is not:
    - a European, Australian, Asian, Noodlers, or Private Reserve ink.

There are a few reviews of this ink, and discussions on both fountain pen blog sites as well. It is not entirely unknown, but not super well known either. In fact, it's "older sister - now long departed" was very well known.

    Well done, Pithy!

Yes, it is the incomparable Scribe Garnet.

For those that do not know, or may have forgotten, Scribe inks are made by Dr. Leighton Davies-Smith who created Parker Penman inks. Scribe inks are a little less saturated than the Penman inks. The colors that I have tried are quite nice.

That was fun @Dr. P.... thanks for all the clues and soldiering along.... Much appreciated. By the way did you know that French 60s song bore the name of your beloved companion?

@Pithy... great job... Looking forward to your quotes...

How did I miss that one given your clues?

I love all the Scribe inks and have been tooting the horn of them since I got my first back in like April of last year...

And it is because of your comments that I purchased several of these! I thought for sure that you would get it. Yes, I know sometimes the inks we are most familiar with are not the ones that we guess first.

Scribe never even crossed my mind before the last clue, which was the clincher!

While I don't have any of the Scribe inks, I do have some Penmans and (not intending to advertise here but ...) I will be putting some NOS bottles of Ruby, Emerald, and Mocha up for sale soon - maybe today (along with a couple Parker 75s and a 45). I was thinking I would sell all my bottles of Ruby but maybe I'll keep one now. (All the Emeralds are going, however - definitely not my kind of color. And I am a little reluctantly selling the one unopened Mocha I have left - as much as I love that color I still doubt I'll ever finish the bottle I am using.)

Thanks Dr. Penfection for a fun round! I got a fun new pen yesterday - a really cool looking second hand Online calligraphy set with three wide italic nibs which I was pleasantly surprised to find have a little flex - and I am thinking now which ink I want to fill to challenge y'all with. Back soon.

Online (German) Calligraphy pen, 1.8mm nib for the text.
Cheap nylon brush for the cup.
    Nakabayashi Logical Prime notebook.
    Photos with indirect sunlight.

I'm not trying to stump you with this mystery ink - mainly I just wanted to show it off because I think it is beautiful. But it still might be a difficult one to identify - let's see! You'll see that this is a shimmer ink, which should make it quite a bit easier to guess.

I usually only use shimmer inks with a dip pen or let the shimmer settle to the bottom of the bottle and draw ink from the top. But I took a risk with this pen and I think I will regret it. You can see the flow tended to get worse and worse. I primed the feed just before the last 'e' in "Chinese" and you'll see a lot of shimmer in the text "tea cup" in the first close up photo.

I lightened the color of the cup's shadow by brushing water over it. There's just a little shimmer in the cup painting and I kind of like that look. But I really like using this ink without any shimmer - really lovely color and easily a top shelf ink for me. To my eyes its more green than grey.
