Default Aurora Optima Monviso Compared To Nero Perla

I just got my Aurora Optima 360 Monviso yesterday, which makes me very happy. Because some of us have been wondering how the Monviso limited edition acrylic compares to the Nero Perla from the regular line, I thought I'd share a few photos here. Completists can find more photos here and here.

Here they are with the Monviso on top and the Nero Perla below.

The Monviso has more black, and its acrylic chunks seem larger on the whole. The Nero Perla has a lighter appearance and is more translucent.

The trim and nib for both are chrome-colored, but capbands are different, as well as the nibs. The Monviso has an 18k nib and the Nero Perla has a 14k nib. I think they both look great, and of course they both write beautifully.

Has anyone found a notable performance difference between the 14k and 18k nibs? I've had both and they seem to perform exactly the same (no spring whatsoever, very smooth..) It makes me wonder why they make both...

^this is horrible, but if you're in the market I have one listed for a good deal under their normal price in the classifieds.

I have no connection, and I agree that Will's Monviso is a great price, noting especially that the stub and italic nibs are $50 more than the normal EF - B nibs. Someone is going to get a great deal when they buy that.

I don't know if anyone can support any objective proof of performance difference between the 18k and 14k nibs. I myself can't. When I use my 18k normal nibs, which are F and M, I get the impression that they may be even smoother and more precise than my 14k Optima F and M nibs. However, while I'm thinking that, the other part of my brain doubts it. Because the 14k nibs are great. And I can't see an objective reason one would write better than the other.

My Monviso has a stub nib, and it is excellent, but I don't have a 14k stub to compare.

I know Will's pen is worth the price. It's just that I don't have that price this month.
