Before I knew what "oversize" postcard meant, I sent at least a dozen using postcard stamps instead of 1st class stamps, and they all seemed to get there. I also sent a few with the "old" rate up to a month or two after a rate change when I didn't realize it had changed, and again they were delivered. I've received mail that I weighed at over 1 oz with the 1 oz rate stamp on it.
These days, they seem to be pretty lenient whenever anyone bothers to use the mail at all.
Oh, and FWIW, I was caught up with pen pal replies as of today by sending one out, also sent out a birthday card. I have one un-answered non Inky Rhino notecard letter to reply to, and received one pen pal letter today, and have five (5) letters to reply to from a single non-FPG/Inky Rhino pen pal.

Not yet, but I am starting right now.

Today two out, two in. One in mutilated.
So, twice in the past two weeks I've received a commercially made envelope mutilated in transit. Basically the same mutilation also. I am not happy about this, and wonder if something has changed in the USPS sorting machinery. If this is a regular ongoing problem ... hell, I don't know what to do that will actually be effective at improving the situation, but this is not okay.

I sent a few letters out with the the morning mail lady... Still have two that I need to write final drafts of, but I will answer every last letter or card. I have found that I have a hard time not being verbose on paper. So even if you send just a post card you will probably get at least a short letter back.
Still afraid I may scare one of my new pen pals away
