2. My recent Noodler's Boston Safety, with X-Feather; and my happy birthday to me gift of a copper Kaweco Liliput with Kaweco Royal Blue. And a very happy birthday it is!
It turns out that I had been very fickle. I'd have two or three favorites for a year or two and two or three or six others that I rotated in and out of service fairly often. Meanwhile, I have eight or ten, twelve Platinum Preppies and such like pens -- that I don't count -- with not-black inks.
Since January this year, I've challenged myself to ink up no more than four (or five) pens and only top-off the ink -- no more frequent sessions of pens-and-inks fussing.
So far so good. Except for a short period of quick additions after buying some inks at Pen Show Poland, and then quickly rotating them into the Preppies, I've been fairly consistent.
I've been aiming for four (cos pen case holds four), but this month it's five (I don't necessarily treat the two Pilots as case-pens), cos I fitted the Platinum UEF nib into the sidelined unpolished shu Nakaya PIccolo Cigar.
SHORT ANSWER: Five: three Nakaya Piccolo Cigars (kuro, heki, unpolished shu) and two Pilots (CH912 (PO) and Falcon (SEF)).
I think this might be a permanent team.
But never say never.

Mine has crept back up to five, but I can blame our good friend Scooby for that. I have my three primary pens inked, plus a couple of others with Mystery Ink #17.
Exactly three. But really four-ish.

I just counted ten, no eleven.
48. But that is only because there is a pen meet up scheduled today and another one in two weeks where I want to take most of my pens to. Having them inked up makes it easier for others to get a feeling how they write.
Usually I only have 3-4 (max. 5) pens inked up: A Pilot Falcon SEF never leaves the team, always filled with a very dark to black colour. The other pens then have to come in pairs, e.g. a Pelikan M300 Black BB + an M320 Pearl M or an M200 Clear 1.1 mm + M400 White Tortie F.Architect or a Pilot Elite 0.8 mm + an E95s F or so.
I always use a very dark/black writing pen for consistency in my journal/planner + a broad nib with a "pop" colour for headlines etc. and another fine nib for longer writing. A perfect match then is to have pens which work with their respective inks plus all colours harmonizing.

I have 13 pens inked right now and I have no excuses!
I’m currently at three, which is my usual. I like to have a kugel grind handy, at least one italic and at least one stub oblique.
I am now at a point where I can't keep all 7 (or 8) from drying out. :/ I think I would be best off with 3 inked -- one with my go to black, one with blue, and a sample I am trying.
Today, these 12, three short of a full rack. They're all inked and in my rack on my desk, with four triple-pen cases nearby when selecting some for the road.
Left to Right: Esterbrook J - 9555 nib; Pelikan M250; Aurora Optima; Pelikan M400; Sheaffer Balance OS - super flex EF nib*; Pelikan M400; Pelikan M700; Sheaffer Snorkel*; Conid Minimalistica - smooth F*; Montblanc 146 (early '60s); Pelikan M200 Cafe Creme; Conklin 40 gold overlay crescent-filler.
Six are filled with ink mixes from vials that junglejim sent to me to test.
*These three are favorites and always filled with an ink assigned to each. Balance with MB Toffee; Conid with Diamine Sargasso Sea; Snorkel with whatever darkish red that I want to have handy. I really need to assign a black to a pen.

Four total, 2 Lamy and 2 Pilot...
0.5mm vs 0.7mm graphite sizes is much like 9mm vs 45acp...they both work if you know what you are doing. - me
Looking for Caran d'Ache Type 55 2mm set and Rotation .7 pencils.
And today, I packed them all in cases for writing at a picnic table in a nearby park. My "kit" from left to right consists of postcards, an old advertising blotter (well-used), postage stamps, the dozen pens in my prior post in Pelikan triple cases, a list of pens' ink fills, and modern and vintage writing paper, notecards and envelopes, including wartime V-Mail and USPO aerogrammes. A few of you will see the result.
