Hey Guys,
I just purchased a lovely M&K 120 body and was wondering if anyone here knows if I am relegated to using only the gold plated steel nibs that these pens were originally fitted with.
TIA,
James

Hi James,
Originally the MK Pelikan 120 was intended to use with the steel nib, but a gold 140 nib or even a 400 nib will fit. Just need to install it correctly and take care if the nib is not hiting the top of the cap.

Thank you Vasco. That was the answer I was hoping to hear!

Not certain, but I believe that the threads are not the same on the Merz & Krell pens as other Pelikans.

Huh. My recollection is otherwise--I've tried putting my 400 nibs into M&K 120s and had no luck: the diameter of the 120 was smaller.
You are correct....the diameter of the 120 nib/feed collar is indeed smaller than the 140 or 400. My only other option at this point would be to knock the steel nib out of the 120 collar and try to replace it with a similar sized 14k nib. Cursory examination leads me to believe that a 140 nib is pretty similar in size....can anyone confirm this???
Thanks for all your help.
I was not referring to the nib unit but to the nib alone. If you take out the MK 120 nib unit and replace the nib only by a 140 Pelikan nib it will fit and work as long as you use the original MK feed and collar. Even the 400 nib will work but it wont fit as nice.
Here is a picture I just took with a Pelikan 120 similar barrel ( it is actually a Senator Barrel - Senator is from MK and MK produced the 120MK for Pelikan and also made the same exact shape barrel feed and collars to their own brand of pens)
It fits and it works.

Perfect. I can see the picture now. I seem to recall that MK or Pelikan produced a 120 that had the striated body w/ink window like the Senator you show in your picture. Regardless, I am now on the hunt for a suitable 140 nib.
Thank you again for your generous input.
James
You are welcome!
The thread you saw was probably my thread about a possible prototype Pelikan 120 M&K . I was convinced the barrel was a Pelikan original, but it turns out it's not. That barrel was not produced for the pelikan 120 MK but for a Senator pen Senator.
