    Default Cheap, FP-Capable 8 1/2 x 11 pads: Recs Please?

I guess the title says it all? On advice read somewhere else, I bought pads from a Big Store, and they turned out to be paper towels with lines printed on them. Even so, I struggled doggedly to use them. But now I'm done.

Does anyone know of a CHEAP, white, lined 8 1/2 x 11 top-bound pad? US sources only, please, readily available, and CHEAP... as I already have pads from Levenger, Rhodia, Clairefontaine, and a few precious Staples Bagasse.

And many thanks for your help!

Have you tried Topps Docket Gold (comes in white) legal pads. You can get them at either Office Depot or Staples. I have used them for years with FP's, and they work very well.

I used Tops Docket Gold during the better part of last year and I found them to be very good. Lately I've been using Office Depot's Professional Sugar Cane legal pads which I find to be smoother:

I've been getting those sugar cane pads too. Broader nibs and wetter inks will soak through a bit but overall they aren't bad at all.

I used Staples Double Pad, both white and yellow, until the Staples store nearest me closed; now I'm using a Tops Docket Gold double pad from Office Max/Depot. Again, both white and yellow. They work well with my Parker Duofold. The pads I get are hole punched, which is nice for those pages I want to keep in a notebook (for example, some of my manuscript drafts and notes and exercises for languages).

easy to find good enough stuff at Staples- look for the Made In Brazil paper. Their Sustainable Earth line is fantastic too.

Target's Up&Up brand has an 8.5 x 11 top wire bound pad that has decent paper for FP use. It's called either legal pad or large steno. I just bought a couple. The paper is thin, so there is slight show through, but no bleed through, so you're probably OK with medium nibs.

I know I'm late to the ball, but I wanted to share a good find if nobody had posted about it yet. Office Depot. Has an amazingly FP friendly paper. It seems more plastic than paper in its water resistance. You can push small blobs around between folded sheets. Its lined they are on sale for $1. There are others same brand for $.10 but I can not vouch for those.

    Happy writing!
