Kultur/Philias section Q

So.....I'm wanting to replace a nib in a Kultur. Try as I might, feed and nib are not coming out of the section.

Are these things glued in? Has anyone successfully removed the feed/nib from the Kultur/Philias section?

The Phil/Kult feeds are tight, but not glued. It's common for the nibs to corrode in the section making a tight fit tighter.
I've removed dozens successfully, most after just a good soaking in cleaner (I make my own, conventional, water-ammonia-dish soap)

My trick for the really stuck one is:
1) put the section in the freezer until thoroughly cold - shrinking it
2) dip the section end (holding the nib/feed) into very hot water for 5 - 10 seconds - expanding it
3) pull the nib/feed straight out of the section - slight back and forth rotation might help, but the feed is keyed and something will break if it's forced to spin much.
Rubber grip pads help greatly.

No they are not glued in and yes they will come out eventually. I've removed several in order to replace their nibs with L'Etalon gold versions. You have to take much care to not damage the feed though.

Firstly, you need to soak the end of the section and nib overnight in cool water. Then if you have an ultrasonic cleaner, you need to put it in there for a couple of goes until it gets warm. If you don't have an ultrasonic cleaner, then soak it in some warm water, until it feels really warm.

Then you need to wrap a very thick wad of kitchen roll around the nib and feed, grasp it with a pair of pliers, (preferably those protective pliers for fountain pens,) and using a very slight side to side rocking motion pull out the nib and feed in a straight line together. Don't try to twist it at all.

That's how I do it and it usually works.

Once you've done it, you will need to use that grippy rubber stuff to get the new nib and feed back in until they click into position.

There is another technique a friend passed along. The usual soaking/ultrasonic ride are best to start.

Tools needed are a washer, two screwdrivers, and a small vise grips. Washer must have inner opening large enough to slip over the nib, but smaller than the front of the section. Place washer over nib, resting on the section. Wrap nib/feed in rubber gripping material and attach vice grips (of course, only tight enough to grip, not break). Now you take two wide, flat-blade screwdrivers and place one on each side of the washer, fitting the blade between the top of the section and the bottom of the washer. You can then use gentle, prying pressure to press up on the washer, using lever action on both sides, which will press on the bottom of the vice grips and will pull (push?) the nib and feed loose.

Hard to describe, but if it is not clear I'll draw a diagram. I'd still say try the other methods mentioned in the thread first, but this one has never kept me from getting out a nib/feed.
