Default Matching ink for amber P. Custom 823

    Hello folks

Last week I bought the Pilot custom 823 from Ebay.
I love the pen! Sizewise and nibwise.

I got the amber version, but since I only have one brown ink, it's inked with that. The only brown ink I have is the Pelikan 4001 brilliant brown.
But that colour contains a lot of red undertone meaning it doesn't really match the amber colour of the body.

So my question: which ink do you think will match very very closely with the amber resin colour?
    Any experiences?

I was thinking to go for Iroshizuki Tsukushi

Anway, feel free to share any thoughts or suggestions

I never try to match ink with pen. It's perfectly fine to do it. I just don't

Considering that the 823 is pretty dark, most brown inks would work just fine.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. I however like to match my colour. It gives some sort of strange satisfaction.
However, for my black pens like the MB146 I would use a different colour than black (the barrel is black).

Black pens could be used with other colours like greens or reds. Black pens are more universal I think.
But brown pens or red pens however just don't look that good with other colours than the colour of their material.

It meight just be me (and a pen and ink is a personal thing after all) but I'm looking for a matching brown in this one.

How about a KWZ Ink: Honey, Cappuccino or even Green-Gold? All would complement your pen.

I have used all sorts and for a brown, I used Noodler's #41 Brown. However, now I've gone back to Pilot/Namiki Blue and it looks just fine. Great pens and if you use the tWSBI spanner, they are easy to take apart to clean out the ink chamber or silicone the piston. No need to take the nib out or apart. Piece of cake!

I think J.Herbin Lie de Thé (Tea Leaves) would go very well, but I also saw a review on a Honey coloured ink (was it KMZ?) that would be a spot on match. Other ideas, based on inks in my drawer... de Atramentis Ocher, Diamine Burnt Sienna (both very brown yellows), Waterman Absolute (used to be Havana) Brown (lighter brown).

Matt of "The Pen Habit" just posted a video on YouTube (Currently Inked #22) where he very excitedly matched his Amber 823 with Iroshizuku Yama-guri. (About 9:50 into the video)
He felt that it was an almost perfect match.
You can go to his video and check it out there, you can make your own decision about it then

Yama-guri is a superb ink - - my favorite brown. Now well into my second bottle of the stuff.

I'd second P.I. "Yama-guri" and J.Herbin's "Lie de The" (for a lighter ink). Another cool dark brown is Franklin-Christoph's "Dark Chocolate".

Montblanc Toffee Brown, KWZ Honey and Monteverde Brown come to mind.

Diamine Ancient Copper might work well.

Ruben, I know you asked about brown inks, but perhaps you could consider other colors. It's not sacrilege. I use my amber 823 with complementary ink colors, such as Pilot Kon-Peki. Sometimes I also fill it with black or medium blue inks. I think the dark blue tint showing through the amber gives a nice effect.

I have Diamine Saddle Brown in my Pelikan M200 Cognac right now. Some would call it amber colored. Looks good. Most of the time I don't try matching. I just wanted to try this ink in this pen.

Actually, when Pelikan used the same coloured material to make an M250, back around 2008, they did in fact call it "Amber". They changed it to Cognac for the latest production

I had seen a photo of a amber demo by sargetalon of his collection of M2xx pens. Part of what made me think of it.

I have the Amber one. I bought the Cognac too. I naively thought it couldn't be exactly the same colour as the. earlier model, but I was wrong. At least some of the trim differs. I sold the Cognac & kept the Amber.

Going back to the OP's question, I put dark grey in my M250 Amber & it looks great.
