    Default Weather and Writing

So, North Dakota has been having a bit of weather lately. I'm in the state's "banana belt". But, in the meantime, a bunch of letters to pen pals and a few bills have been sitting in the Post Office. We haven't had mail since Monday. (It's now Thursday.)

Meanwhile, when I say I'm in the "banana belt", I'm serious. Here is the school where a friend of mine teaches. This is the McClusky elementary school, photo taken on Wednesday.

I know I should be concerned about a vintage Aurora 88 that is in the mail, but I'm actually at peace about it. The pen will get here when it gets here. Meanwhile, other than a massive shoveling session, I've gotten off very easily in this corner of the state. My pen pals will have to wait for my letters. My bills were mailed on time, and the businesses where they are due were likely closed the last few days anyway.

Whoa! (That's about all I can say about that snowfall.) I am not complaining about the cold front that came through Lafayette this afternoon.

I am, I was outside in the cold windy rain by the Cajun dome as it was coming through. This is the south, isn't it?

Wile E. Coyote, we do have to meet up one day. I didn't know you were still here in Lafayette. Believe it or not, we had snow one day last January. It lasted about 20 minutes. Or was that the January before last? I can't remember.

While not as much snow as Waski, we've been getting some decent snowfall here. Just before Thanksgiving, we got about 16 inches, and another storm is on its way in, with the possibility of 8-24 inches. We are right on the border between ranges. I for one welcome this snow, as last year we had a depressingly green 70F Christmas.

Whoa. It snowed a couple of times here in the southwest of Poland, but none of it stuck. It's been cold, though, and windy. But it hasn't been snowy like that!

Really cold here too. May not get even make it to 50F/8C today and likely not back in the 80sF/high 20sC until Sunday. Then next weekend will be cold again.

I'm just north from Jar, and the temp is currently up from about 20F yesterday: 34 Fahrenheit /1 Celcius

20 degrees for us Texan is pretty dang cold.

I just finished corresponding with one of my pen buyers in Montana though, so I'm counting my blessings.

I ought to invite one or two of you to come and stay up here in the north woods. It is a beautiful crisp sunny day, at a pleasant -11C. Perfect for a walk in the woods, if you have snow shoes. The worst weather for writing is in July when it is so humid that it is impossible to write a letter because the sweat runs onto the paper and makes the pen slippery.

SBRE Brown uses a sort of "plastic thing" betweem his hand and the paper on his Youtube videos. Maybe it would help?

On another issue, talking about weather influences. I have a mild to hot summer here in my city (Usually 30ºC or a bit higher, with a bunch of rain), and have noticed some water drops "forming" on the tip of my "FC Basic" nib. This happens while the pen is capped. It is not nib creep, since they are not ink drops. Just water.
Is this result of weather making the water evaporate in the ink? Could it be making my ink more saturated? Could it be troublesome?

More likely simply condensation. If the air is humid and exposed to something cooler and that transmits heat well (like a metal nib) you will get drops of condensation just from the air.

But wasn't the inner cap supposed to be air tight, or something like it?

If you ever take the cap off you fill it with humid air. If you then allow it to cool you get condensation.

Gotta love a place where 20 minutes of snow constitutes a snow day.

Snow here, today. It is time to hole up and transcribe a summer's writing into the journal books. By spring I will have a legible hand again.

Bought a Jeep Wrangler last February. This is the first real snow we have had since then. Maybe I will go out today and try the 4WD; see if it works.

All 4WD will do for most people in the snow, is get them further into the woods when they lose control and run off the road.
