Default I am not a nibmeister

This is most odd. I have received numerous messages over recent weeks/months requesting nib fettling. The latest today. What is true is that I do grind nibs, smooth them, change them from broad to medium, get rid of that slight toothiness on the upstroke, can tweak it so it is more/less wet. I can do all that but I do not do it commercially. I do not do a wait list. I do not do 'drop me a pm and I will (if I like) do you a custom grind and charge you an arm/leg/spleen/other body parts' to do your nib. I do not pretend to have a 'business' as a nibmeister. I do not do any of that.

What happens is this and only this: Rock up to the geeks meet in London (go check, it's widely publicised here) and I will bring tools, try to deal with your nib issue, share a beer with you, smooth it, tell you what's wrong with it, smooth it out, get inky, tell you your nib is toast or peachy.

That's it; that's what I do. I do it for love of what you put in front of me. No more, no less.
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

As someone who has plagued Annie with my nibs for years, I can vouch for her skills.
PS she will accept a glass of something red in payment. Preferably not Diamine Crimson.
Some days, it's hardly worth chewing through the leather straps....

The options for nib fettlers in the UK seem... sparse, and the most well-known seems to run his business as if he's not actually running a business either, so I'm not at all surprised you get asked.

I’m lucky enough to have my own personal nib fettler. He’s put right a few of my nibs that had been messed up by professional nibmeisters.

I'll take the opportunity to thank Annie here for various nib-saving operations she has been kind enough to do for me.

And in fact I have a nice little challenge here all ready and waiting!

I don't even need nib works, but I'll add this to another reason I want to move back to London: Pints and Pens.

Can a nib fettler befettle a stub and then proclaim it to be in fine fettle?

Surely only a fine could be in fine fettle. Unless it produced a thinner line, in which case it'd be in extra fine fettle. In Japan the nib fettling is so good they can declare nibs to be in ultra fine fettle.

    Nib-fettling. <--- Awesome!

You know what I love about you British people? You can make a joke or even expressing total exasperation over something, yet still sounding (or reading) cool while doing that.

Thanks to Rui I got to meet Annie at a London Geek meeting that coincided with the London pen show a few years ago. She saved one of my nibs that I had given up on. If you can, it is worth it to go to the meetings. The beer is good, the pens are great and the people are even better.
