Default 1st photo ??????

This young lad visits us each morning to scrounge the seed that the sparrows have dropped from the feeder.. Have absolutely no real idea how I managed this.

Default 1st photo ??????

Congratulations, jarc!

I have no idea what kind of bird is this, tho.

Edited to say I discovered how we name this bird in Portuguese. I never seen one alive, but they're served in some restaurants. Thanks for the pic.

Many, many thanks for your devotion to educating me how to manage this epic task.
Not certain I can automatically do it again without intense trial. Will give it a go again soon.
Regards.

In the UK we know them as Pheasants (this one being the cock Pheasant) and around my part of the Country we have loads of them. They are classed as a "Game" bird and are thought highly of in culinary terms. They are bred in great numbers for the shooting fraternity and the foodies. Personally I would rather see them in the wild (or my garden), than on a plate. They might look on the large side but that is deceptive, there is not a great amount of meat on each bird.

Pheasants were introduced into the UK as 'Game birds' for shooting. I have a farmer friend who breeds them and who organises shoots on his farmland. I have visited and seen how he breeds his chicks on several occasions, and I have no quarrel with a farmers ethics.

Personally, I would prefer to see them anywhere that doesn't belong to me, because they are big and greedy birds that eat lot's of food, and the bird food I buy isn't cheap. I recently scared one off my garden that flew high enough to go over the next door neighbour's rooftop.

Jarc, it's just a matter of practicing it a bit.

As far as I researched, pheasants are bred for food or for their beauty (I suppose someone have these birds running around their yards).

In Brazil hunting is not common as in the U.K. and I suspect most of the time it's illegal. I really don't know if someone breeds any kind of animal for hunting purposes, tho.
