In over 12 pens of my small collection I keep 5 inked.
I keep two for my job, two for home desk and another in my shirt poket.
Every week I try to rotate them... but I always "fall in love" with the most recently acquired! So this is the one I keep with me.

I try to stick to only four pens at a time...
Attachment 4390
Even though most of these pens have been filled within the past day or two, I'll be emptying and cleaning most of them soon -- unlike my usual habit of going a couple weeks between picking pens and filling them. The Osmia's been a good pen to me in the past, but it's clearly not happy with the Chesterfield Obsidian, so I'll be casting around for a better option. And the Serwex simply has too fine a point for the J.Herbin Lie de Thé -- the ink deserves to flow from a fatter nib, and the Serwex needs a richer ink.
Likewise, I had for some reason assumed Noodler's Zhivago would be thinner and greener -- it might do better in the Serwex, for example, and the Jinhao could do with something like the Lie de Thé. I don't really need three pens with slightly different black inks in them anyway.
The watery Lamy Turquoise in the Dilli is for sketching in non-repro blue. An old habit and preference formed in my graphics and prepress days. Previously I was using a Noodler's pen for this task, but the water kept evaporating out and leaving me with full-strength Turquoise in the pen. Meanwhile, the metal ring at the end of the section was developing rust... Hopefully the Dilli will do a better job of keeping the wet stuff in.
I try to stick to three pens at any given time that meet ALL of the following criteria:
- one broad/stub/italic nib, two medium/fine/EF nibs;
- at least one gold nib pen that's not cheap (>$100) and at least one inexpensive pen (<$100) too;
- one with black-ish ink, one with blue-ish ink, one less "official" colour ink;
- at least one slim/pocket size pen; and
- the three pens are not of the same colour (eg. black) or brand.
At the moment, the three inked ones are:
1. Parker Duofold Mini (modern) with Green Check, fine nib, green mixed ink (MB Jonathan Swift with a drop of PR Ebony Green).
2. Pilot Metropolitan black zigzag, medium nib, J.Herbin Perle Noire.
3. Lamy Safari blue, 1.1mm, mixed blue black ink (Quink blue + Quink black).
On average, the three-pen carry is renewed every week. Any unfinished ink gets extracted, mixed sometimes, and put into one of the next trio.

I've got six inked. But since my Nakaya arrived I haven't actually USED any of the others so I suppose I should clean them out and put them up, huh?
