    Default My kind of Duofold

I love Parker Jr. Duofolds, the compact but stubby dimensions and the awesome clip and cap-top design.

So two orange ones (I am a fan of orange pens in general) arrived a few weeks ago, and a full black arrived this week.

As I was cleaning these up, I notice one of the orange body's cap is all chipped, and the barrel of the full-black one is undergoing restoration, so on a whim I put the black cap on the orange barrel, and it hit me!

Black cap and orange body looks darn good together.

Sure, it may vaguely resemble a very expensive pen named after a famous author who wrote about the old man and the sea, or one of the burnt variety from the famous large-beaked-bird pen company, but I think this combination of Parker Jr. Duofold can hold its own in terms of coolness and charm.

flamboyant, I agree - but bet you'll incur the wrath of the purists ............ my knowledge of authors and their pens is nil.... so Hemingway wrote with a pricey Parker did he - what was the model?
It must be something very accommodating about black I think .... it also goes well with lime and mandarin too - not that I would mix them

PaulS: Penwash was referring to the Montblanc Hemingway Writer's Edition - lovely pen. My understanding though was Hemingway used pencils. I'll wait for clarification from others.

Penwash: very nice! What's the nib like?

Hey Penwash, we have the same Duofold! Like you I love the stubbiness of the Junior (I like Waterman 42 and Pelikan 100 for the same reason) and I have the black-red mismatch Junior just like yours. But mine has the added feature of really deep bite marks too. :-)

Thing is, I appreciate both authenticity and originality.

I would never berate a purist for leveling a hill in order to maintain "purity". I've done it, been there, got the sticker/postcard.
In return, I also ask that the purists don't bug me about my experimentation and creative freedom with my *own* pens.

I was referring to MontBlanc Hemingway, I have no idea what the author wrote with, most likely not with that pen, because it was created to celebrate his career.

Carl, I have two options. I can either put a flexible Warranted nib (wet-noodle class!) or I can put a Parker Arrow nib on that pen.
If I want to keep it, I'll probably go with the flexible one. But if I want to sell it, I'll put the Parker.

    I haven't decided yet

Amk, if the marks are on the black top of the cap, that thing is hard rubber (at least the ones made in US), just heat it up gently with a hairdryer, some of the deeper marks will be less deep and the shallow ones will flat out disappear.

thanks to those who put me right as I'm sure everyone realized my words were to some extent tongue in cheek. I've not a clue as to what he wrote with, either, although I would have assumed it was something which contained ink, rather than a simple pencil which seems a bit of a let down when thinking of such a big name.

I've definitely read somewhere he used a pencil for long hand.

    Hahaha... Sorry!
I was eager to take a pic of this pen, I just grab one of my wife's cookbooks as the background.

He wrote with Corona Models Nos. 3 & 4, an Underwood Noiseless Portable, various Royal portables and a Halda portable. Remember that he wrote reporter's dispatches.

Yes but he also wrote longhand sometimes as it looks as though he used a variety of writing instruments (including the aforementioned typewiters).

Anyone have a guess at the pen he's using here?
