Default 2017 New Releases - Speculation Thread

The first quarter of the year is now behind us, and we have seen some interesting releases from Pelikan so far this year, such as:

    • M101N Bright Red
    • Ink of the Year - Smoky Quartz
    • M800 Renaissance Brown

This is the thread where I would like to stimulate speculation about what else might be in store for us. Some vendors probably already know, but have been sworn to secrecy and I would never countenance asking anyone to break a promise (or worse, a non-disclosure agreement).

I have seen a strong hint elsewhere that there will be more M80x releases later this year - on top of the Renaissance Brown released in April - but I don't know what they will be. I have been told by one source, however, what they will not be:

    • No resurrection of M620 cities series in M80x size
    • No M800 Brown Tortoise
    • No M800 White Tortoise
    • No M800 Forest Green (rumoured in 2016 but didn't materialise)

Any one else willing to guess what Pelikan has in store?

No points awarded to M200/M205 Smoky Quartz!

ETA: It sounds like there is a definitely a M605 in the works - what and when, we have to wait to see.

I'm guessing we will see a M1005 Stresemann at some point.

They seriously need some 600 size pens. A big lack in their lineup.

Possibly a semi-transparent M205 "Smoky Quartz" to match the ink; but that's only based on conjecture following the pen + ink matches of the previous two years. What I'd like to see them do is bring back better nibs, but that's not likely to happen. After last year's horrible 120N they might even try to bring back the 140 (as a M400 with rounded endcaps).
Overall, the German manufacturers seem to be struggling with design problems at this point, and Pelikan avoided the issue altogether by simply shuffling the color schemes around.

More and more I find added bling and limited editions are just silly, too. If I wanted something truly "new" from Pelikan, it'd be a reissue of an all-sterling pen from the 1950s (i.e., not just a silver version of the Souveran design).

Seconding that - even though I'm most happy with the M2xx/M40x size. Also a pen in their "Classic/Traditions" (M2xx) range but in the M600 size would be great for all the folks who prefer a mid-size pen but don't have the cash to buy an M600.

Seems there's one less to speculate on according to Novelli posting in the other place. An M800 "Renaissance Brown" in May. (Another M800. How surprising and unexpected...) I'll copy it over here in case they've jumped the gun and it disappears again!

    M800 Renaissance Brown.
This special edition was designed with a completely new color combination: Extraordinary, pearl-like ribbons of color in the brown, acrylic material reveal fine nuances of light and shadow. This aesthetically pleasing juxtaposition symbolizes a typical characteristic of Renaissance painting, making it an homage to the masterpieces painted by the period’s greatest artists.
The rings and clip are elegantly decorated with 24-carat gold.
The two-tone, 18-carat gold nib is optionally available in nib sizes EF, F, M and B.

All good news for my wallet, it being an M800 (more of an M400-M600 gal) and nothing interesting in the offered nibs (no temptation). So "Yay!"

Yep I agree. The only pens I would consider. For me the 400 size is too small.

To recap: For me the 800 and 1000 sizes are too big and the 400 size is too small. The 200 size is a bit like a compromise, because I prefer gold nibs and better quality pens. One day I might even find a 600 size pen that I like and can afford. Then I might consider buying it.

Well well well...what a beautiful pen! Less than 24 hours of waffling before I placed my pre-order. It is now time to seriously begin off-loading my lesser pens (in terms of writing experience, of course - I would never be so shallow as to judge a pen by its acrylic)

V excited, and got a v good price from LCdC

Now, I have heard that there is an M605 in the works for later this year. Could it be a M605 Anthracite? Or something more unusual? Vibrant blue? Or red like the M201 Mars store exclusive for Farney's pens?

I would have to assume "decorated" is a new word to described "plated." Oh, what torture the English language suffers in the hands of marketers.

The galling thing about that pen is that EVERYTHING about it is totally on point for my aesthetic. I would have preordered the mere second I saw it announced in another arena earlier today except for the fact that it is an 800. When the Burnt Orange was announced, I desperately wanted that pen, but before I did anything I borrowed a friend's M800 for a month. As it turned out, it only took a day to convince me to save my money, because the pen does NOT feel comfortable in my hand - too smallish unposted, unbalanced when posted. Totally bad feel for me, and I have no need for a gorgeous pen as a paperweight.

I'll probably end up getting a custom pen in similar material to this new Pel in this year, unless they release a 600 version. Honestly, I think they are foolish for not releasing pens in multiple sizes when a new material comes out. What a shame.

Pelikan has just announced via Instagram that the M800 Renaissance Brown is part of 'an exciting series in different shades.' I can only hold my breath...
