    Default Jinhao 992

So I ordered myself two Jinhao 992 pens, a smoke colour one and one described as coffee colour , more amber in colour.
They cost £1.53 each including postage... Absolute bargain, smooth, good build quality and nice looking.
I really can't recommend these enough if you need a cheap everyday carry and don't want to risk taking your favourite pens out in the wild.

Couldn't agree more. We bought a handful, in all the available 'demonstrator' colours, & they're a lot of fun. $18 for 6, including shipping. If you like smaller Sailor-style pens you can't go wrong

I bought a blue and a coffee. Both loaded, both nice wet writers with medium-ish nibs! I did the coffee on my now-an'-then blog.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

And my latest ebook, for spooky wintery reading:

I have a coffee rowing its unhurried way towards me at the moment, and am rendered impatient by these good reports. I've already been favourably impressed by the Lingmo and Delike Sailor "homages" and suspect this move from cumbersome brass bodies to plastics by Chinese brands may well cost me money.

    I'm inclined to agree.

3/4 of my pens are Jinhao pens. I love them. They are good writers and I will take them over more expensive pens.

I get a lot of joy when a cheap pen turns out great. we all know it's a gamble, i had a coupe of hero pens that are likely landfill now, but when you get a good one it's great.

Encouraged by this thead (and praising reviews elsewhere) I also ordered a clear demonstrator. It will be my third fountain pen after Pilot Metropolitan and Kaweco Classic Sport, and I am hoping to make an eyedropper out of it.

    So exciting. :-)

I picked up a couple of these after seeing this thread. Paid $7 each on Amazon Prime. A touch smaller than I expected, but solid build, tight clip, and the one I inked up is a good lil' writer.

I just picked up a pile of 'em on ebay for penvangelism purposes. thanks for the heads up!

I've purchased several through Ipenstore and love them.
They make wonderful eyedroppers (especially the clear ones) IF you :
-add silicone grease to the section
-unthread the nib unit and silicone that as well, and (with the most emphasis ) ...
-pull the tiny end plug and superglue it back into place (this one is critical...as I learned... )

There are some demonstrator ones as cheap as $1.62, but those sellers in China have some challenged feedback
I feel more comfortable ponying up $2 from a seller that has 99.5% feedback, rather than 98.2%.

These look like very decent quality for the price. You get a "Pilot Demonstrator" kind of look & feel for a bargain price. Would be cool if you could swap in a Pilot or Sailor nib.

I just read elsewhere that TWSBI nibs fit, but as the nibs my 992s have are fine as is, I haven't tested this.

It's more a Sailor Procolor look, I think. But anyway, if you want to swap in Pilot nibs, the "Super Quality" steel ones at any rate (i.e. Metro, Prera, Kaküno, etc, nibs), the equally Sailor-esque Lingmo Lorelei is a perfect fit. Not as cheap though.

Well, I thought I'd better update as the potential downside with these pens doesn't seem to have made it over here yet.

Got my 992 on a Friday, inked it on the Saturday, ands on the Sunday noticed the first signs of cracks at the end of the barrel where the end plug starts. They grew, so now they're readily felt with a fingernail. This seems to be an increasingly reported phenomenon in the Other Place, but sporadic. (Exercise extreme caution if you're considering using them as an eyedropper!) Not widely reported - so far it seems to be a unit of one and I'm the lucky weevil - are the emergence of cracks in the cap under the clip ring. Again, only visual at first, but traveled enough to be felt now. All within a week and the pen never even left my desk.

I'm not a big fan of pens self-destructing on me, no matter how inexpensive, so you'll have to put me down as Not A Fan. Hope everyone else has better luck.

I bought the six pack, as Migo did, and so far they've performed very well.

I did manage to snap the finial off of one, although to be fair I was trying to clip it to a pretty thick folder. I ordered a new one though.
