Question Aurora 88 Large Chrome Cap - some questions

    Hi all,

Recently I find myself smitten with the Aurora 88, specifically, this model:

    https://www.nibs.com/pens/aurora/aur...ack-chrome-cap

This will be my most expensive pen by far, if I end up buying it. I will definitely try it out in person, but prior to that I'd like some input from folks who have already lived with it for a while. I think I read just about every Aurora 88 review there is, but some details have not been mentioned.

    1) Does the cap have any inner lining to prevent the ink from drying out? How many days can the pen sit capped before it hard starts?

    2) Is the chrome finish on the cap reasonably durable? How will it stand up to normal use, i.e. in/out of a shirt pocket several times a day?

    3) That beautiful, sensually curved clip... How useful is it in real life? Does it retain its springiness?

    4) Anything else I should be aware of?

I don't really need another pen. I have a Lamy 2000 and a Pilot Falcon, both of which I enjoy. I created this thread, in part, so that someone could talk me out of the 88 I am finally done with my student loans (paid off early) and feel like I can splurge -- but if I do, I want to buy the "right" pen, to stay with me for a long time.

    Thanks!

Well, I've got this model with the chrome cap and I can tell you: you don't need to be afraid of anything. The quality of this pen is astonishing. It never gets dry, t'he clip is perfect and beautiful, t'he chrome cap don't show any sign of having any problem. Go for it!

Thanks for your reply and for the reassurance! I'll get to a pen store later this month to handle it.

I don't have the white metal cap but the black on an older 88.

No problems with dry out. Cap seal is great.

Clip is aesthetically beautiful and sculptural and I am totally baffled that more people do not remark on it. Looks like syrup coming out of the bottle and is really functional to boot. Brilliant design. I love it.

Great pen. Silky smooth piston. Sexy nib. Ergonomically near perfect. Ebonite feed delivers the goods.

Only downside: a bear to clean due to that magic reserve business. But otherwise a great pen on par with an M800 or a 146 or a Sheaffer Balance Premier, etc.

That large section is a joy to hold.

Thanks for the reply! Indeed, the large section is one of the primary attractions for me, as I hold pens fairly high. I'm looking forward to my trip to the store.

    There is also the Talentum.

It is a cartridge converter model.

Thanks - the Talentum is beautiful, I'll take a look at it too. I believe the nib units are interchangeable with the 88?

There are two modern Aurora 88s, the large one and small one. They have different nibs. The Talentum nib is like the large 88.
