    Default Lamy EF Nibs??

News that everyone should be aware of...

I was informed by my Lamy USA Rep that Germany intends to discontinue stainless (LZ50) EF Nibs for Studio, Safari, and Al-Star Pens.. This means that once the stock from the vendor (and dealers) is over, these nibs will no longer be available.

This is unfortunate, as this seemed to be a very popular size. I checked with rep, and the loose nibs will also no longer be available once supply is depleted.
So, if you like EF nibs- check with your dealer regarding stock. You can buy them seperately, or with pens till everyone sells out!

Discontinue is my least favorite word.

I'm very upset to hear this news.

The black EF continues on and the stainless EF are discontinued?

Thank you for the heads up! On the face of it this is disappointing news, but in my experience (of four EF nibs) they are so variable as to be easily confused with F nibs.

Well, there's the way of modern business. Buyers, legitimately, point out that extra fine nibs are not consistently extra fine and the obvious solution is to fix the problem by making them consistent. Ha ha, silly me. Of course not. Discontinue them, and then there can't be any buyers to complain.

After the "black amber" 2K fiasco, the woeful estimation of demand for Dark Lilac, the pimped-up Al-Star "LX", the re-badged Turquoise, and the demand for physical storefronts for stockists in Europe, I really thought Lamy'd take a break from this self-defeating nonsense.

Not a fan of EF nibs but for some reason, I chose it for my Petrol. It needs work. I have a selection of different sizes to swap in, so I am not too worried about it. If anything, a fine nib could be ground to a better EF than what Lamy has been providing. I understand it is not ideal, but it's not the nibpocalypse either.

I have five Safaris with EF nibs, three black and two bright metal. All are excellent, but I like the bright metal ones better. One required a nib alignment. With Lamy's other marketing triumphs and estimations of market demand, I am not surprised by this.

Lamy seems indeed on a path of self-destruction in the image of fountain pen fans. Keep in mind though, that their main business is with casual buyers, students who go through the ABC - Nexx - Safari - Al-Star/LX progression, and corporate gifts. I don't think that Lamy has ever understood the "fan" market, nor do they understand that there are over-21-year-olds buying their Safari. Their few (and failed) attempts at conquering the luxury segment clearly show that their realm is the broad spectrum of people seaking a cool, colorful, modern-looking pen, people who wonder only after the purchase whether they just bought a rollerball, fountain pen or ballpoint. In the upscale niche, none of their later pens came even remotely close to the L2k in stature. And, with coated paper notebooks and mainly school assignments dominating the task list, the European market probably doesn't warrant the production of EF nibs. Last time I shopped Lamy in Germany, the stationers seemed to mainly stock M and B.

EEEK! EF is my favorite Lamy size!

I'm down to one Lamy (a white Joy) with an EF nib. If I were to buy any more Safaris or Vistas, it'd be with an EF. But if EF won't be available, then... I won't, will I, Lamy. Lamy?

Lamy must be thinking outside the box.

Some years ago I went to lunch with the small group of IT people I worked with. Everybody else ordered the special, chicken pot pie. I ordered a banana split. The others all laughed and said I was thinking outside the box again. The next week I was diagnosed with diabetes. Maybe Lamy is in for a surprise too.

According to the Goulet Pens blog, the EF steel nib will be available in Germany and Asia, just not in the U.S. In spite of increased demand according to Brian.

Glad to hear that there is little difference between F and EF. I was considering buying one before they're not available.

Update on this week's Anderson's podcast is that this exceedingly short term. In fact it is almost over as EF nibs are to be freely available again in the US in as little as three weeks.

I'm going backwards! I started with a safari then went to Nexx. Then I went to Kaweco Sport 😜

I have since got more safaris pls the copper and Pacific blue Al-star's, but it's the Nexx's and Kaweco that stay inked. Maybe I should get myself an ABC (though they seem to be appearing less and less in the UK).

Edit: if EF nibs do become scarce, Cult Pens in the U.K. Will ship worldwide and have them in stock. They do free delivery for a £100 spend as well
