A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.

robalone, does the feathering bother you? I get that sometimes with pointed pens, even on coated paper, but usually only with fountain pen inks. It doesn't seem to happen with dipping inks. Not sure why exactly.

Greetings 👍🏻…..after ages wondering whether it was inks ..or paper…I’ve actually come to the conclusion that it’s the sharpness of the nib that causes the feathering , at least on Rhodia paper.
Some of my dip nibs , and often the fabulous Zebra G, do it , because they are so fine, but some ( or 'most') of my regular FPs even the real gushers, don’t do it even with the same ink !!
So I’ve kinda narrowed it down to the nib scratching the surface treatment of the paper !
And as further proof if you like, if I write really softly, with almost no flex, it doesn’t feather !!

You are probably right, and I've suspected the same thing. Oddly enough though I don't see it happening with master calligraphers, so there may be something we are not doing quite correctly, like angle of nib to page when flexing. Something to think about.
32E13D41-D901-4C62-B912-0FDC6570605A.jpegFor example……here’s a late 40s Waterman something or other….which writes a very wet line , with Iroshizuku ink in it , same company as the red, which was Momiji.
No feathering at all !

Note there is a little feathering from the pointed pen, but significantly less so than from the formal italic, even though the latter is sharp and unforgiving. Don't recall what the inks are, alas.

What a feast of fabulous writing... thank you all.
I have also noticed that some nibs tend to exacerbate some ink's bad habit.
For ex. Baystate blue with a medium Jinhao 450 #6 bleeds through. But with a wide Sheaffer calligraphy nib it won't. Conversely, a number two fine nib, doesn't bleed through either.
I believe it's a combination of pointyness and maybe the size of the nib.
