    Default Micro Pocket Pens

I've posted this elsewhere, but since those who work this forum were so kind as to create this new Pen turning subforum, I thought I would add this here.

I had been meaning to to make a mini fountain pen for some time (after the spirit of the Stipula Passaporto, and maybe the Kaweco), but never got to it....until I absent mindedly turned a nib section (for a #6 nib) a bit too narrow, and decided to use it anyway, but for a different purpose. So I tapped it for a #5 JoWo nib, and quickly (like, on the fly) threw together designs for a slimmer, narrower pen than what I usually make, long enough only for a standard international cartridge.

The result is the 'Micro Pocket Pen' measuring in at 85mm capped, and 120mm posted. It is even smaller than the Passaporto, for ultra-portability, but posts by threading onto the end of the barrel to a comfortable length for a long writing job (the posting and capping is by triple-start thread, so like half or 3/4 turn to cap/post. The threading is not as clean as I would like, but I seem to get this more often with the triple-start.

For fellow pen makers, the JoWo nib unit thread is M6.4 x 0.5; the nib section to barrel is 3/8 x 32; the barrel to cap (both ends) is M12 x 0.8 triple-start.

Here's another one pictured with a Passaporto, a Kaweco, and a full size Sailor 1911, first capped, then posted:

Thanks for looking! Comments and critiques welcome.

PS the resins are 'Golden Smoke' and 'Ocean Lava' from Ernie's 'Lava' series at Bear Tooth Woods.

They both look very cool but I am drawn to the Golden Smoke more. I like the black accents too.

Very cool. I'm a fan of minis and have all but the Sailor pictured but not the Micro, obviously.

Love both of them. Great work, Ken and so pleased that this forum has been created and that you will be a contributor.

And if you happen to need a converter for such a small size pen, try one of these - no affiliation apart from being a satisfied customer.

Thanks for the link. Do you know anything about this company's ink?

Thanks for the compliment, and thanks for the tip! I have seen mini squeeze converters, but not a mini piston - cool! I may just pick up a few of these...

I have one of those. Unfortunately, it did not work with my Kaweco Sport.

That design is great! I especially like the threaded end for securely posting the cap.

That is a definite plus. It is one thing I do not like about the Kaweco Sport. Slipping the cap over the barrel just ends up scratching the barrel. It start looking ratty after that. I could probably polish it up but doubt it would last long. On the other hand, I did not like screwing the cap on the Kaweco Liliput. The Stipula Passaporto has a good screw cap design. It does not take as many turns to secure it.

    Love the concept. Great job!
I wonder how it would look when matching the outer diameter of both barrel and cap. Reinforcing the impression of continuum also when posted. Reminiscent of a Nakaya, for instance.
    Just a thought. Cheers!

Thanks very much. Diameter-matched cap and barrel -good thought. The same concept had run through my mind while making it, but figured the step from the larger diameter to the small diameter of the nib section might be too much. Still, it would look cool. I might just have to try that with the next one

What was the problem? Fit, ink flow or something else?

I don't want to detract from Drgortex's thread. We have discussed it before but I don't think I followed up on it. Maybe we could continue the discussion here? http://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread....weco+converter

Oops, my humble apologies to all members. I've been frequenting another popular pen forum where thread high-jacking is the norm and I have forgotten my manners and good protocol. Thank you for the reality check. And I should also have read all threads before posting here, to avoid duplication. My apologies once again.
