    Default New Guy from Ohio

Hello everyone! I just started this hobby last week with a Pilot Metropolitan and a Platinum Preppy along with a bunch of ink samples. Alas neither pen was for me and the inks so far haven't been surefire keepers. So I'm on the hunt for an upgrade and some new inks.

You say the pens were not for you. It might help us with recommendations if you can be specific why not. What qualities do you need in a pen? Same with the inks.

    And welcome aboard.
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

The Preppy had too small of a sweet spot for my liking; but it's fine since my wife loved it and took it to work with her The Metro's grip was too narrow, and a bit slippery for me. For inks I had samples of; Noodler's Hunter-I actually rather liked this one, a shade or two darker would be perfect I think, Diamine Grey-it's, well, a grey, Robert Oster Gold Antiqua-wasn't as dark as I expected or I left some water in the converter or feed and it got lightened, but was otherwise nice, De Atramentis Thomas Alva Edison-a nice shade of purple, my wife liked this one so I put the rest in the Preppy, Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-kai wrote wonderfully but was a shade lighter than I'd prefer, Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-ryoku I liked as well, but might be a hair too light for me to easily read, not decided on it yet. And I still have Noodler's Tianamen and Diamine Autumn Oak to try out

    Welcome.

I can recommend Conklin Duragraph and Callifolio inks (Vanness Pens sell them here in the US).

Lucky Preppy to find a new home so soon.

How about a Nemosine Singularity? Thicker than the Metro, comes in all sorts of nib sizes and body colors.

Diamine Autumn Oak is a very nice orangey ink.

I was considering the Singularity, the .6mm stub seems interesting to me in particular. But was scared off by reading some reports of the cap cracking. Perhaps I'll take another look. I was thinking of saving the Autumn Oak until I have a thicker nib, since I'm not sure how well it will show the shading with the Metro's fine nib.

Hey, suitaroh...Some, not all, of the Nemo caps develop hairline cracks that don't hinder performance. Because of the many nibs available, I'd recommend one of these over a similarly-priced and sized Waterman Kultur. I'm hearing nice things about the Nemosine inks, too.

@manoeuver Southeastern Ohio, far from pen shops. I am thinking about going to the Ohio pen show though.
@Sailor Kenshin I'll certainly look into the Singularity more than, I couldn't figure out if the cracks were performance causing for people.
@marsilius I like you. You might be the first person to catch it.
