Default Stipula Verde Muschiato versus Sailor Jentle Rikyu-cha

    Or, "The Emperor's New Ink"
Or, "Faux amis or or Separated at Birth?"
Or, "More Fantasy from the Trombones!"

I was inspired by Jon Szanto to compare Sailor Jentle Rikyu-cha and Stipula Verde Muschiato.

The image does not capture some of the true color differences, but it presents both inks on Tomoe River Paper with #6 Bock nibs (not the same one, alas), and with a dip pen. These are placed on my special lowbrow paper-towel test (Sailor on the left, Stipula on the Right).
    Impressions:
    1. They look especially similar when placed on the page with wet or dip nibs. When they put on the page little drier you see the lighter yellow green in the Stipula and the darker blue green in the Sailor.
    2. Their central colors are similar, but from the paper-towel spills you can see the different elements of their colors.
    3. The Stipula ink seems to flow a bit more easily or lightly, something I associated with the few
Montblanc inks I have, creating a slightly more watery ink feel, which I like. The Sailor “feels” more saturated.
    4. This part is subjective. While they end up similar in color on the page, Verde Muschiato starts darker brown and lightens up a bit. Sailor Rikyu-cha starts more green and then darkens to a “brewed” brown.
I like both inks but have an "Emperor’s New Clothes" love for Rikyu-cha. One of the pleasures of the Sailor ink is that it appears to vary more depending on choice of paper and nib. It also has a little more blue-green-brown within. That said, they often look very similar.
The other part is purely sentimental. Rikyu-cha was the first specialty ink I received as a gift, and I enjoy that memory as I write.

In the end, maybe they get to their similarities from different places? "More fantasy from the trombones?" (It's a musical joke; I bet Jon Szanto knows it.)

Hey, I just want the trombones to go away. Far away.

    Nice comparison of the inks.

That doesn't NEED to have anything to do with pens, Because it is simply cool. Any links to his playing?

Man, another good-looking dusky green/brown ink. PenChalet has these for $18 per 70ml bottle.
That is not bad at all.

Also, the Verde Muschiato, is much darker in a wet pen. Really nice.

As requested, though I don't know that he has a lot of stuff posted or publicly available. Wonderful young man, too. (Most of his current shares seem to be on Facebook, so... hard to post here)

Thank you for the comparison. I really like Stipula Musk Green too. It's the only Stipula ink that I have bought.

Very cool. And, hey, that is Michael Eskin, the guy who has designed some really cool bagpipe playing apps!
And just to keep this on thread, I will say that Verde Muschiato really excels when laid down sloppy wet on the page, which raises another question for another thread: getting modern nibs to slop some ink out like old pens . . .

Just did a search. You'd be amazed at how many fantasies there are for the trombone.

Wonderful review! I already have the Rikyu cha and love it. I am supposed to get a sample of Verde Muschiato any time now. I like the inks that are in this color range a LOT!!!

Thank you. I have really been enjoying how the Verde Muschiato (Green Musk) lays down on watercolor paper for drawing. Good stuff. Jon Szanto's post #37 in this thread has a nice comparison of those inks:

Thank you. I did take a look at the picture, and it was a great comparison. I look forward to giving it a test run. It does look beautiful to me.
