Angry Waterman Expert nib hard dry up ?

Sorry if the title is misleading but I did not know of any other way to describe the behavior of the experience I encountered with two of my Waterman Experts. They wrote beautifully for a little while (I put in Waterman purple) and I was very happy. Then suddenly when writing out of the blue the nib started drying up and went completely dry. Nothing I did would coax ink out of it. I lightly flicked it, I lightly tapped the nib on paper and I tried lightly shaking the pen. In the end I forced some ink out onto the feed using the converter and the pen started writing again.

To be safe I have re-flushed out the pen again using a bit of dish washing liquid and tons of water. I pulled out the nib and feed and there wasn't anything gunking up the works. Has anyone faced a similar situation with Experts before and how did you fix it ?

It may be worth trying a flush with very dilute ammonia- a few drops in a beaker of water, and then letting it stand in water for ages. If you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner that may help: it's always a shock to see how much comes out of a "clean" pen. My Expert II can be a bit like this and these approaches seem to do the trick, though I've never used Waterman Purple.
Some days, it's hardly worth chewing through the leather straps....

Could be the converter. Use a cartridge to see if the problem subsists.

Have both pens behaved this way with the same ink? Of all the current Waterman inks, I find the purple to be the most temperamental. Perhaps try another ink?

One pen was on Diamine Oynx Black and the other was on Waterman Purple

Hum. Poor cap seals? That would be surprising if it happened to affect both pens. Only thing I can think of is feed and nib alignment, which can affect flow.

My Carene likes to this, makes me wonder if it's not watermans feed or the cap seal on their pens.
