Hi from Maryland

I got my first fountain pens, a Pilot Metropolitan and a Plumix, a little over a year ago, and since then I've written more than any time since college, which was in the pre-PC era when I drafted everything with ballpoint. It was a revelation to see how the stub nib on the Plumix instantly improved the legibility of my handwriting.

After lurking and learning from this forum over the past year, I hope to participate more actively. Thanks to all you active members who have already taught me a lot.

Not only do schoolchildren not sing "Maryland, My Maryland," but the University of Maryland Marching Band just announced that it will no longer play the state song because its lyrics are sympathetic to the Confederacy. I don't know how the Marching Band found out the song has lyrics.

It is truly the end of an era. I hear they are considering moving the Preakness from Pimlico. Next will the US Naval Academy choir stop singing Maryland my Maryland before the call to the gates? It was never a song that should be sung at the pace of marching terrapins anyway.
