    Default Something Rather Different!

Described by a friend as somewhat "Steampunk" here is a recent acquisition: a Ronson Penciliter. yes really... a propelling pencil with built-in petrol cigarette lighter. It's a pity I packed up smoking a few months ago.

I do wonder who dreamed this one up and how whoever it was managed to persuade Ronson's managing director that it would be a good idea to tool up to make it!

Had heard of this but never seen one before. Handy for destroying secret messages, perhaps?

Given its bulkI should think it would be handy for destroying the interior of one's coat!

That is one of the coolest stuff I've seen as of late. Very steampunk and I love it.

Hah. I looked through a store window the other day and saw a Montegrappa pen with a corkscrew in it... not quite as steampunk but equally wrongheaded

It's in very good condition. I suppose if you were trying to give up the tobacco habit, you could guiltily record how many cigarettes you'd had that day, while firing up another.

A friend of mine has one that he brought to a pen gathering. Fascinating little gadget!

I had quite a struggle to get this thing working.

No problem with the pencil, but the lighter part was another matter altogether. I discovered that the tube that holds the flint was blocked, so I had to dismantle the thing and drill it out - probably an ancient corroded flint. There was then a panic when I dropped the flint wheel onto the floor. Fortunately managed to find it. Filled up with petrol and it works about once out of every dozen attempts! I doubt I can be bothered to see if anything can be done about this. If I smoked still, perhaps I'd give it a try.

If I discover that anyone is still manufacturing proper oval good-quality Egyptian or Turkish cigarettes, that have not been castrated to meet modern "standards" then perhaps I will!
