Mass Drop has a Pilot Fountain Pen Starter Set going for around $46:

This drop includes one Metropolitan fountain pen (choice of color), one Varsity 7-pack, one Plumix 3-pack, and one Rhodia No. 18 notepad. At checkout, you can select the style of Rhodia paper, as well as the nib size (fine or medium) and finish color of the Metropolitan. You can also add a CON-40 piston-stye converter for an extra $5. This drop is limited to 100 sets.

They also have a special on a variety pack of Rhodia paper. I bought my first fountain pen from MD, a Parker Urban. The only thing that drives me nuts is that the wait for the product can be rather long.

So, whatever the Eyeore comments, I am entirely happy with my Massdrop package today! I've never tried the Pilot Varsity and it's very fun. The black Pilot Metro will be a Christmas Present, and maybe a Plumix/Varsity combo will go up as a Pay it Forward! The Rhodia pad--I'm keeping!
