    Default Sloppy Classifieds Method?

I think this ad is sloppy, advertiser wants to put stuff in one site and use links to a sheet that isn't even alphabetized for user convenience: https://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread...-Pens-For-Sale

I think that, if an advertiser wants to sell to members here, his ad should be housed here and not just a link. Lazy man's ad. However, if you people think this should fly, so be it.

I don't particularly like that style of posting and skip over them when I run into them. Is that lazy of me as a potential buyer?

Google.docs is inconsiderate - don't make it an effort for people to peruse your wares, why not just copy and paste?!

I skip over them too. if someone wants to sell something, then I think it's up to them to make a great job of advertising it for sale, so that it appeals to as many potential buyers as possible.

To just put a couple of links to somewhere else doesn't do it for me. I'm not totally confident about clicking on external links at the best of times, but when it's something for sale, I feel I can afford to wait until the next one comes along, and there is no need to take any risk.

    😂 😂 😂

On spreadsheets, if you click the top of any column, you can sort that column.

Give it a go. You make the list alphabetical, price high->low or low->high, available or not and even if there is a review or not.

Because there is a lot more functionality available by putting documents on sites that support features FPGeeks chooses not to support.

It's hardly worth pointing out, and will just drive another Geek off the forum. Don't sweat the small stuff...

He's obviously got everything listed on multiple sites but just wants to maintain one central list of what's sold/not sold. I kind of admire the organisation method, though yeah, it's a minor disservice to 'the forum'. Hey ho, he's not the only one just using it as craigslist for pens.

I can't say I really G.A.S. about this issue, but I have concerns about buying from sellers who just use this as a place to sell.

Looked at the photos, looked at the document; still have no idea which are the pens - that look nice in the photos - in the document!

    whatever

It was organized enough for me to know that I wasn't interested in anything.

But I am super cheap now that I own one pen worth over $75, so not much appeals to me right now beyond mild interest in knowledge.

I agree with Fred. This doesn't bother me.

On another note, I do not believe we should name and shame on this site. I do not want to run anyone away. The TGS has some nice reviews.

Maybe it's the scientist in me, but I have no problems with linking to a spreadsheet. In fact, I was thinking of doing it for my FS posts, but after seeing this discussion, I'm having a lot of second thoughts. I think most people will cross post to different sites, so having a centralized document can update all potential buyers.

For very long ads, it's sometimes very difficult for me to tell whether the description is before or after the title text that names the item for sale. The spreadsheet gets rid of that problem. Having the clickable link to photos also eliminates mistakes.

If this type of post doesn't appeal to you, it's always easy to ignore it and move on. Especially considering how much TGS has been to the community, I think it's pretty harsh to point out his ad with such disparaging remarks. If it were me, I'd vastly prefer that someone PM me to make a recommendation. Seeing a bunch of posts like this would put me on the defensive and make me feel unwelcome.
