Default The best nib you ever found

Droolworthy pens? I've had very pretty pens, modern and vintage, but what makes me drool is the nib. This is the very best pen I've ever had the fortune to find (it bumped to second place a Montblanc No. 6 F nib found in a celluloid 146). The big nib is not just flexible, but responsive while being strong. It happens to be found in an early long-barrel oversize Sheaffer's Balance. I keep it ready in my pen rack filled with Montblanc Toffee.

The pair of straight lines emanating from the hole is Sheaffer's indication of these attributes. I've had other nibs with the same marking, but this particular nib has been touched by the nib gods. I keep looking for back-up at pen shows.

Of course, this is totally subjective. Everyone has their own goal for writing, and the type of nib determines what works best to achieve that. This one does it for me.

My Sheaffer Sovereign II came with an XF nib that is slightly turned up at the tip. It has a wide, smooth sweet spot. It is also ground to be used upside down. In that mode, the line is as fine as a hummingbird whisker. The pen has a military clip. The furniture is vermeil and, in time, will go tactical.

Best is subjective (water also wet) and depends on one's application. But the nibs that most made me giddy inside were all Sheaffer factory stubs in particular I have a Sheaffer Sovereign Snorkel that is glorious but also a Triumph desk pen that has a nice smaller stub, a OS Balance stub, and an S4 Clipper but the Sovereign is perfect.

Best round nib is a first year Crest.

Not a flex chaser but my Waterman 55 is matched by only by my 50s OMAS pens. My OMAS 361 is in wet noodle territory.

Currently it's my stub nib on my Sheaffer Legacy. I'm really loving writing with it.
