    Default Little 'elp please.

    Found these 'ere pens.

The green one says Schaeffer on the nib. It has got a big crack in the lid what does not seem to be moving or getting worser, and no rubber sack in the body. There is a white spot on the arse end of the pen.

The black one says Parker on the lid and is engraved with Parker and some numbers on the shaft. So I guess it is a parker pen! This one has black ink in it so I guess it works an all.

Not sure if either is worth much but they's not really my thing.

whats the best approach to offload these?

    cheeyahs!

Classifieds or eBay. It will help if you spell "Sheaffer" correctly.

Maybe it will also assist with help and here. Why anyone would deliberately choose to type an apostrophe rather than typing h is beyond me. I must be old.

Parker may be a double jewel and if the numbers are 925 then a Sterling Silver Cap. It is important to show the filler system and also any imprints found on the body including "."s (dots).

Erm, the black parker pen does not have any number 925 on it, sides which it is gold colored not silver. The butt end of the shaft unscrews and comes off and there is a kind of skinny plunger thing. The butt end and the top of the lid have a sort of silvery inset button thing going on. There is markings on the shaft, Parker and what looks like .5. It is hard to make out on the black color.

Thanks for the help with the spelling for the green pen. The point on that one looks to be of two colors.

Is the kind of skinny plunger thing aluminum or plastic?

The black pen is a Parker 51 Double Jewel. The filler type matters as it helps date the pen which you state is coded 5 for 1945 so a black plastic filler is likely correct. The diaphragm has most likely failed and will need to be replaced to use the pen.

Had a rummage on the web and found out how to work the plunger thing. The pen sucks water up and does not leak so dont see need to put in a diaphram what ever that is.

Not a ebay person thats why I asked her bout offloading this somehow.

so, what sort of price should I be asking thats fair?

There isn't really anyway to give you ideas of what to ask. They are both pretty common pens so not terribly valuable. The best bet is to look at closed sales for such pens at eBay.

Dont use ebay. Had a look there, not really sure how the search thing works and found 4 recent sales at $168, $175, $243, $349 and 1 offering up now at $382. Thats a wide spread of numbers. Just too confusing.

It may seem confusing but if you are serious about the *easiest* way to find at least a bit of a benchmark on current prices, it is the way to go. You need to stick with it and do a little homework. It really isn't that hard to use the Advanced Search, narrow it down to your particular style of pen, and then find the check box (on the left, I believe) to show only "Sold listings". It is both irrelevant and misleading to look at what price the items are being *asked* for - that simply how much the seller would like to make. What YOU need to see is what they have been selling for recently. Take a look at a number of sales and draw out an average price. If you aren't going to any pen shows (which is the only place LIVE that you could see a number of these for sale), you aren't going to find too much more.

Even within a single pen model, there can be variations. Some pens of a certain color or maybe with a particular feature (such as an unusual nib) might have only been made in smaller quantities, and nothing jacks up a price like scarcity. For a single pen, yes, it can be a bit of work, but this is how you eventually get an idea of what a realistic asking price is for a collectible object.

So, the average from the last 4 sales in ebay that I could find of black parkers with two end pieces is $233, and your offering $125. Amiright?
