    Default Pop quiz time

Do modern black rubber sacs still 'outgas'? Is it possible to discolor a green jade Sheaffers Flattop? I have one in beautiful condition but want to keep it that way and don't want to put a sac in there and find I've damaged the color of the pen over time, but I gotta tell you, I'd really love to test drive this one.

    Thoughts?

Why take a chance? Early Sheaffer jade that hasn't darkened is an awfully good thing to both have and keep that way. If you put one of David Nishimura's silicone sacs in, you won't ever have to even give it a thought. Storing the pen with the nib upright is (apparantly) the only caveat, as the sacs are more permeable to air than the latex. I've just recently received another early Sheaffer in black/white that is in remarkable condition and am happy that the person that restored the pen used one of these silicone sacs.

Yup. Silicon sacks are the way to go.

I agree with Jon, alternatively, get another Sheaffer Flattop jade that is discolored, and test drive *that* one

Keep yours without a sac. It'll be even more rare in the future. IMHO.
