Default FPGeeks, What pens are currently in your EDC?

    FpGeeks,

What fountain pens or other writing utensils are currently in your EDC?

    Lamy 2000 (fine)
Lamy 2000 Rollerball (with Pilot G2 refill)
    Lamy 2000 Mechanical Pencil (.5mm)
Van der Spek Black 3 pen case.

I sometimes carry four other fountain pens in another case, but the Lamy 2000 set always stays in my messenger bag for work.

    I tend to carry:
My Conid, if I know I won't be out and about too much and have a secure place to keep it.
A Montblanc 149, which I hide so no one will think I am pretentious.
A modern pen I rotate that is usable but fun for the day, and not too valuable.
A Pilot VO in case I need to click and write.
Maybe one vintage pen to hug like a teddy bear.
I mostly keep them in a cloth rollup in my backpack, and one usable but losable one in my shirt or jacket pocket.

It varies somewhat. I will generally have either one of my two Pilot Custom Heritage 92s or the Custom Heritage 91, all of which have FM [fine medium] nibs, but there are little differences in the way they write.

I might have my Lamy 2000 or a Pilot Capless Decimo in use, rarely both at the same time.

I typically have at least one vintage pen inked, with my group of favorites including a Parker Vacumatic, Conway Stewart 388, Eversharp Skyline, and Mabie Todd Swann 3150.

And I rotate in other pens from a much larger group. It's my good or bad fortune, I'm not sure which, to have "too many good pens".

I almost always have at least one mechanical pencil with me. I prefer thicker leads, the "greater than 1 mm" sizes. I have some Esterbrooks that take the vintage leads, and prefer those.

And although I almost never use it, I'm seldom without a Fisher Space Pen, riding in a pants pocket away from the fountain pens and mechanical pencil, which are in a shirt pocket or in my laptop case.

For me it changes every day. Three of the currently-inked pens go into the shirt pocket in the morning. Then I'm stucks with them all day, sometimes happily, sometimes not.

I'm lucky enough to (have to...) wear a shirt with lots of pockets, one of which includes 3 pen inner pocket. They carry a TWSBI Eco with a extra fine nib and Noodler's Heart of Darkness, and a Zebra Sharbo multi pen (0.4 mm gel in red and black, plus a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil). One pocket stays empty as it is nearly impossible to reach, but has held a white board marker in previous job when it was needed more often. Finally, a Kaweco Al Sport with a medium nib and (as of today!) Sailor Jentle Rikyu-Cha. For quick notes, I have a pocket Goulet Pens Tomoe River notebooks in an Etsy leather cover, and for longer meetings a filofax (the unlined paper of which is surprisingly fountain pen friendly!)

Regretfully, in my current job, most of my time is spent making very quick notes on printed PowerPoint presentations, then typing up my observations and relaying them back to my home unit). The paper we have is decidedly not fountain pen friendly - even the EF, which feathers and bleeds badly enough to be readable on the second sheet with dotting on the third... Hence the Zebra gets the lions share of use.

Usually my Vanishing Point and my Lamy Studio (Stainless Steel). I've also been using the Kaweco Perkeo (grey and pink). (These are in a Nomadic case that I don't think they make anymore--a fold-over case with pen pockets.) I also carry a Purple Hi-Tec-C, a Faber-Castell Perfect Pencil, a Marvy Purple marker, 2 Dong-a Miffy pen in blue and purple, a Pilot Maica Hi-Tec-C pen in blue, a Retro 51 Pet Rescue pen (the cat version), a Uni Ball Vision Elite in purple, and a 4 B pencil.

Sometimes I carry a Nock Co. 3 pen case, and in it I put whatever pens I am loving at the moment (except the ones that never leave home).

I also bring a Pilot Petit 1 attached to my Traveler's Passport, though that pen has been disappointing me lately, and I'm thinking of using something different.

Carry three pen sets for rotation. One modern and one old for each pair. The old pens are three Parker 51’s. The three modern pens are Aurora, TWSBI and Monteverde. When I dress up, the pens vary. Modern Pelikans, a Mabie Todd, a Waterman are currently inked up. Who knows what will be next.

For me, since almost each day I have a new project pen that I'm either restoring or cleaning up, I get to use a lot of pens. Of course, if I don't pass most of them along to new owners, I'd be bankrupt a long time ago.

Today I just finished restoring this one:

Reading this gives me a Pavlovian response to go ink up one of my pens with that same ink, which I sometimes hoard away.

    Every day I carry:
Leuchtturm A4+ Master Slim, plain page notebook
Visconti HS Bronze fine w/ either Kon-Peki, Asa-Gao, or PR DC Supershow Blue
    TWSBI Vac-700R 1.1 stub w/ Noodler's Bloody Mary red
and a Pilot Heritage 92 medium w/ various inks, an Iroshizuku green (Shin-Ryo) is in there now, but it will soon switch to a blue for backup.

...and frankly, that TWSBI writes so well that It's likely I'll pick up another one in Medium to swap out with the Pilot

For years, I have carried an Esterbrook SJ in my shirt pocket along with a small notebook. The nib is a 9450 fine nail that I keep toothy for writing out of hand in the notebook. It was once lost for a year in my garden. The tiller churned it up one spring. It was still full of ink and continued writing from the first jot thereafter. I once crossed a field and fell on my chest across a fence rail. The pen bruised hell out of a rib but suffered no damage. If I lose it again, I have 11 backups for it.

For the next couple of weeks it will be a Parker 45 with an "X" (extra-fine) 14K nib, filled with R&K Salix IG. The first EF nib I've used that I feel is scratchy, even though it looks perfect under 10x magnification. Will see how I feel about it after some time.

My all-time favorite is Platinum "#3776 Century Chartres Blue, probably the most beautiful pen in my collection. It stays with me always. Never out of rotation. Also never out of rotation is a TWSBI Eco which is kept on my desk and seems never to run out of ink though it is used daily.

Lately I've been carrying Fountain Pen Revolution Himalaya in Ebonite, a surprisingly excellent writer, very lightweight and a joy with which to write. I am also carrying the FPR Jaipur, which I like but not as much as the Himalaya. Other EDCs in rotation are KarasKustom, TWSBI AL Diamond, Faber Castell Loom, Pelikan M200, Lamy 2000 and Visconti Rembrandt.

The main criteria for me is that a pen performs (no skips, hard starts, et.al.) It's the joy of writing with them that matters. I hate to admit that some of the most expensive pens I own don't write quite as well as some of the cheapest. I have an 89-cent Chinese pen that I bought out of curiosity that writes better than a Sailor that cost almost $200.

Right now I have a pilot 912 custom soft fine, TSBI Eco ef, and TWSBI vac 700R EF. I tend to use a Franklin-Christoph 3 pen leather case. It has served me really well for the last 3 or 4 years without showing much wear.

In a two-pen Piquadro case, I carry a Pilot VP (gunmetal gray, M nib), loaded with Pilot Blue and a Pilot CH92 (smoke), with a lovely “blade Turk” ground by Mark Bacas, loaded with Sailor Rikyu-cha.

Well, you'll have to realize I often carry several EDCs. It just so happens that when I read your post, my cases were in transition on my desk, shifting inked pens to and from the 15 inked pens held by my rack. The first case in the foreground holds an Omas
Arte Italiano M, a '50s Omas Extra EF flex, and a woodgrain W-E with EF flex. The other case holds two Conklin crescent-fillers with EF flex nibs, and a Vac with an M flex nib.

It's just a moment in time; the pens will be swapped around shortly.
