Default Moore 72A in Brown Stripes

Once in a while I found a pen that I just instantly like the minute I saw it.

Just like its big brother the Moore 94A, this pocket-friendly 72A has some of the most beautiful celluloid in the vintage-pendom. This one is brown-pearl vertical stripes that dances in the sunlight.

But this pen is also unique in three regards:

    1. The clip is short and goes up to the top of the cap. Wonder if this qualifies for military uniform use.
    2. The size is pocket-friendly but it's not slim. I don't like slim pens in general.
    3. The nib is a vertical MOORE but with LIFE engraved below it. Never seen one in this size before.

***NOTE: See some BCHR Moores on this thread by Fred.

What a great looking pen. I love that moire pattern. The two Moores I have had have also been really nice writers.

Great shot of a nice pen. I like your composition. I would imagine that Moore switched to the top mount primarily for Military compliance. The eagle is a nice touch.

Judging from Will's two shots, this was the common clip for the 94-A, 92-A and similar pens. One integrated piece, held in place at the top but would allow the pen (I believe) to sink into the pocket virtually as far as a true military clip. These pens are a focus for me, and Will describes it well. In addition to the wonderful celluloid, most of the Manifiex nibs are as good as anything that was produced at the time.

Thank you, Bob! That little pewter eagle is a perfect pen stand, the ridges on the wings can somehow cradle even the heaviest and slipperiest metal pens I put on it.

I keep forgetting that you're a Moore Pen Co. fan, Jon!
I'll put another photo with handwriting next.

I've put this up before and I've added a few since then. Need to do some new Moore photos...

I had a collection of the moire-pattern Moores (third from right). One afternoon while visiting The Pen Haven, a lady came in looking for Moore pens because her surname was Moore. Her husband had one vintage Moore and she wanted to give him more Moores. She bought one from Bert at the shop, but most of my Moore collection was wiped out within that week!

Well, Fred. You obviously need ... Moore.

If I'm not very much mistaken, and alas I am very often much mistaken, that 3rd from right pen passed through my hands.

Indeed it did. It hasn't, and won't, go any further.

Although this one has probably got a better nib, I can see why you might not want to part with the one you bought from me!

$310 (so far) versus $60. Who knew?
