    Default Newbie Observation

After a couple days now of trying FP for the first time (Pilot Metros fine and medium nib), so far I prefer the Medium nib. But it’s a small sample size, practicing writing letters for a couple hours a day since Jan 1.
I like the feel of both, and as my technique improves maybe I can get the fine nib to not feel so “scratchy”.
Getting the proper angle, grip and pressure is taking some time. Obviously the lighter the touch appears best but hard right now to maintain due to re-learning after 45 or so years of bad habits.
*Mods if I have placed in wrong thread please move and forgive me as I learn my way around the forum.

    Welcome to FPG Danno.

Next observation after "There are no mods".......

As you're making an observation about a pen rather than an observation about ink, maybe the best place would have been somewhere in "Pens" - possibly "Pens in General" rather than in "Inks" - "General Inky Goodness" but no-one will mind.

This...Which is a little sad as anything which might have been placed in the wrong location can never be moved to the right location and may never be found by anyone searching in the future.

Anyway, it makes a bit of sense that the fine nib is a touch scratchy. Pilot is Japanese and their nibs tend to run a size smaller than European nibs. Thus your Medium is a Fine and your Fine is Extra Fine. At their price point not a lot goes into polishing and smoothing the nibs on a Metro either. They write quite well out of the box, but your scratchy nib could be improved in a few minutes with a little more polishing (a learned and practiced skill).

No worries. It would be almost beyond my phone capabilities to get to the FPG forum, never mind post something on here.

    Welcome!
Lots of good El Cheapo pens around to practice your handwriting without spending a fortune. Pilots are okay, but you can also try the budget Demonstrator Jinhao's. Lots of them for just a few$$ on e-Bay.
Have fun and keep us posted about your findings.
'Pens in general is always good' That's why it's called Pens in general....
