    Default Red

Ok, this is a longshot but...

I used an unknown cartridge of ink that when it first hit the paper was a bright red. Later that day I was looking at the paper again and it looked much darker than I remembered. So I wrote again and sure enough the new writing was bright red. As I watched, it turned darker and eventually was as dark as the first thing I wrote. It was almost like it was an IG red ink.

Has anyone (Chrissy?) used an ink that did this?

I haven't seen this happen, but like you I've heard about it happening with IG inks. Was it an International sized cartridge?

I have only seen this with the KWZ iron gall inks, but in that case it happens quite quickly, in minutes rather than days.

I think Wile was suggesting it happened fairly quickly. It was all done on the same day.

So are we looking for a bright red IG ink that comes in International cartridges?

I once noticed a similar effect with Diamine Matador...until I realised that I hadn't cleaned my pen properly.

The first few lines were bright red, as they should be. But as the offending residue mixed with the rest of the ink, it turned toward burgundy as I continued to write. A veritable WTF moment!

Correct, when I wrote below the first line, I could see it darkening within minutes. I just hadn't noticed it previously.

That could be a possibility. But it was the first time I used the pen, a Waterman Phileas. Someone may have dipped it or otherwise tested it before sale.
