Question for pen fixers

Thanks to all who answered my question. I found another pen in better condition.

I am considering purchasing a vintage pen with a hooded nib. The pen in question is light colored and shows considerable ink staining on the tip of the hood at the nib. Is it possible to remove these stains without damaging the pen? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Can't say with certainty. It depends on the plastic and whether the staining has penetrated or is superficial. What type of pen is it?

The pen in question is a Parker 21 Super.

I think it depends on what's the ink and how long it has been there. It's an 21 so I wouldn't risk disassembling it and and normally, if the staining is just superficial, it comes off fairly easily with some Novus plastic polish.However, you have to be a little careful dealing with the tip of the hood because it seems to be a weak point in the design. Even for 51s, it's not so uncommon to see a broken hood tip. I think some of them happened when people trying to file down the interior of the hood because the shrinkage prevents a proper flow.

If it's a Parker 21 the stain might come off with pen flush, or a clean in a USC. But Novus plastic polish might work too, and just as well.

It depends on what ink it is of course.

What color is the pen?

It is grey.

Grey is a colour that takes stains. Both Parker Newhaven and Swan discontinued their grey ranges because of that.

That's not to say it won't come off. Give it a try. Novus polish is a good suggestion.
