    Default Rusting Nibs

Has anyone else noticed their Jinhao nibs corroding? Under magnification I'm finding some pitting. I have bought some of those generic "iridium" nibs found on the 'Bay to use as replacements. Has anyone had any experience with them?

It seems those nibs are made of low quality steel. I've seen only one documented case of iron gall inks damaging nibs beyond repair, and it involved Chinese steel nibs: http://kencrooker.com/igink/

Of course, IG ink magnifies and accelerates any corrosion issues.

I've got some nibs that look like those in the article and I haven't used iron gall ink. I'll see if I can get some usable photos.

I tried some dip nibs on Chinese pens and found out getting corroded in Chinese nibs are slower than the dip nibs.

I have some old Arnold pens that have corrosion on the nibs.

I bought a cheap Chinese acrylic a year ago and noticed rusting and the nib actually being eaten away where the tines meet. I'd got through just one ink cartridge.

That's what's happened to me with a few of these pens.

I examined a Jinhao X450 in my collection by pulling the nib and I do see discoloration of the steel plating but no pitting yet.
