It took me some years altogether to find them. The yellow Waterman models are made by Solido, France. The VW Pelikan Bus is also made in France, by Norev. Both brands are quite famous for making beautiful model cars and they make special brand versions, such as these, in limited editions.

The large ones are extremely rare and were made as promo models for commercial display purposes mainly. I think they were only available in Western Europe, not in USA. I found it some years ago ( in august 2014 to be precisely) on a flee market in Berlin-of all places-. My wife and I stayed in Berlin for a 5 day city trip.

I purchased the VW with the Pelikan colors at a large collectors fair in Utrecht (NL) that is held twice every year. There must be some VW Bus models around with the Waterman colors and brand logo's in the large scale ( 1:19) version, but I never could lay my hands on one. I keep searching though. The scale of the smaller cars is 1:43, like the well known Dinky Toys.

The large scale model is a Ford V6 1936 Pick-up and made with superb detail. Here below, for your pleasure, some more pictures I took, just after I bought it, when we were having a drink on a terrace near that flee market in Berlin. It was not the only lucky find there. In the back of the car you can see a 1923 Parker Duofold Senior, that I bought from the same seller as the model car. He even gave me a discount, because I bought both items from him.

Very cool! The '36 Ford would have been powered by the venerable flathead V8; there was no Ford V6 back then.

I agree. the engine would be a flathead V-8. BTW, it’s a long drive from California. Maybe that’s why the truck is so old and the plates are also.

I have a Watermans Peugeot 203 made by Solido in France....I'm wondering if you could tell us bit more about the makers of those models....especially the Pelikan VW.
Very nice collection you have there.

you are right, @ FredRydr and @ Hawk. It should be the V8.

Actually I doubt if these cars actually really existed in real life in this version. The models by Solido (and other brands of model makers) were (are) often presented in different trade mark versions. If you look at e-Bay for "1:18 or 1:43 Solido Ford V8", many varieties wil be shown for sale, also the Waterman variety. Problem with buying these models on e-Bay is that in general they are pretty stiffly prized. So, until now I always tried to find them 'in the wild' on flee markets etc.

I did not know there was a Peugeot 203 in this series. Looked it up on e-Bay. Still available there. I might order one... Thanks for the tip.
I'll try to find out more info about the VW models. Give me some time. I'll be back.

Lexaf, if you add the Peugeot 203 to your collection, that would be very cool because it has the same branding as your other Waterman car models

I also found this one on ebay (too expensive though):

Found some more... and actually ordered them Cannot wait till they arrive.
See pictures from the e-Bay sellers here:

    HY1.jpg

This is crazy. It really took years to collect the other cars and now, after just a bit of browsing on e-Bay: three others, including the 1:18 scale VW Minibus that I have been hunting for for a very long time. Just lucky I guess. I did not even know the white and blue Citoën HY with Waterman advertising existed as a model! And yesss... the Peugeot 203!

The VW Minibus was way beyond my budget but I could not let it go, I'm afraid this got a little bit out of hand. Hope Mrs Lexaf does not intercept the parcels.
As soon as they are arrived I'll post some of my own pics.

Still working on more info about Solido and Norev.

BTW the Citroën in my collection is a Citroën 500KG 1934.
The Cadillac is a V16 1931. I believe this one as a Waterman delivery van is pure phantasy, but it is a cute model!

The weird but really awesome set that @ Penwash posted is bookmarked! Who knows...

Promised to dig up some more info about Solido and Norev die cast model cars.
    Here is what I found:

    About Solido:
    https://www.solido.com/en/content/4-about-us
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solido
    http://simba-dickie-group.de/en/comp...s/solido.shtml

    About Norev:
    http://www.norev.com/en/
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norev
    https://citroenvie.com/norev-history/

    Model cars in general:
    https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmXoypizjW3WknF...Model_car.html

Lots of sites that sell model cars. Just Google away…

Apart from Solido and Norev some other well known brands (in Europe)
    Dinky Toys https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinky_Toys
    Matchbox https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matchbox_(brand)
    Bburago http://www.bburago.com/
    Schuco http://www.schuco.de/en/company.html
    Corgi https://www.corgi-usa.com/
    Lledo (Days Gone) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lledo
    Majorette http://www.majorette.com/en/home/

    And many, many more.
    Here’s a list of manufacturers:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_model_car_brands

BEWARE: This can be far more addictive than collecting Fountain Pens. The FP Virus is a friendly bug compared to the Model Car Collecting Disease!!!
Here some of my Matchboxes and Majorette cars. I stopped collecting them after this display was full. No more place in the house left…

Someplace I have quite a few Matchbox cars. The detail is outstanding for the purchase price at the time. I won’t get rid of them because I hoard.

Fred, this is exactly what happened with my Dinky's when I was young. I was about 14 years old when I had this idea to search for the box of Dinky's & Corgy's I played with when I was in primary school. It occurred that my mother all gave them away to the neighbours kids some years earlier when I was 12 ...
The family moved a year later... I was raging when I found out!

So Deb, let Hubby cherish the treasures from his youth! He'll cherish you the more for it!

For my mental well-being, I think I'll steer clear (pun intended) of collecting Dinkys.
