Messing about with brick / red-brown inks. Lots of similar shades in this colour group. I'm loving Maruzen Renga and Monteverde Copper Noir....

What I find is the most surprising, at least on my screen, is how close these inks are in terms of tone and power. Cover up the names on the right of the sample and I think that you would be hard pushed to tell them apart.
Add to that the vagaries of how much ink is actually applied to the page and I would be struggle.

Yes, they are mostly incredibly close IRL too, & you could write with most of them individually and I’d bet most of us would struggle to name them correctly. That’s why I washed the corner with a watercolour brush - so you can just discern the slight tonal variations. The behavioural characteristics are what would give it away when writing. Kobe, Maruzen & Monteverde are lubricating. I find Mb Red Chalk, Diamine A. Copper & Terracotta to be drier in feel.
Kinda unusal pattern, there.
Would be interesting to see how these compare to PenBBS #135 "Beijing" ink.
