    Default M2xx v. M4xx

Is there a difference in quality between the M2xx and M4xx, other than appearance and the nib?

Quality? No.. It is mostly looks... the 400 is part of the Sovereign design. There are M200 series pens with gold nibs and steel nibs. I believe ALL M400 are gold nibs.

No difference in my book—just material (celluloid acetate) and added metal rings. Oooooooooo.....ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

On another note, I don't get pen-makers' obsession with adding more and more metal rings to pens. It seems with each new generation of the Pelikan M400, it gets another ring.

There is also the early M600 that was the same size as the M200/400 but had more furniture and an 18K nib.

On right side the last three are a M600, M400 and M200:

and compared to MB for size two 234˝s and a vintage 144 next to a M200:

Thank you. I suspected as much. As of today, I own nine old and new Pelikans (all with the same size nibs) which include three M200s and four M400s, and I never noticed a quality difference in construction or materials when I've had them apart.

The finishing on the section isn't quite as good on the M2xxs - on the M4xx the seam is polished out. Bothers some people, I believe.

No the m200 is excellent quality. It is not an inferior product to a m400. I prefer my m200 demonstrator to most other fountain pens i ever owned in fact

Love my M200's. Have three. Old style blue marble, Brown marble and Cognac. Used to have both black and red M205's.

I have older M400, newer M400 and M200 pens. They are all good.

It was an SE a couple of years ago. 2014 or 2015 if I recall correctly. I think Cognac was 2014 (I got mine in 2015) . Looking on the Pelikan's perch it was an early 2015 release.
