Default Lunchtime ink review: Pelikan Edelstein Jade

Lunchtime ink reviews! I'm taking one ink to work each day and doing one of these during my lunch.

Pelikan Edelstein Jade, dip test with TWSBI Eco 1.1mm stub, on Rhodia dotpad.

A green that leans blue rather than vice-versa. It makes me think of phthalo green blue in paint colours. Saturated colour, more eye-tingling to look at than it photographs.

One of their colours I've not tried yet. Maybe soon.

Wow, this is a nice but my bottle of Edelstein Jade was more florescent than this. I'm comparing it to my ink swab and I wonder if the bottle I got had something wrong with it but it was like a green Baystate Blue. I ended up giving it away because it wasn't usable. I may have to try another bottle.

This is what I mean by the eye-tingling - the brightness/saturation just doesn't photograph. (And if you look at everyone else's images, they don't show it either).

The water looks completely different than the ink!

Yeah, the water from above looks a lot bluer than it does from the side, but in addition getting the ink to look more accurate made it darker. (It does not help that the lighting at work is quite yellow, so has to be corrected for).

If you're using Photoshop to correct your ink colour, then use rectangular marquee around each of the parts you need to change, and then change them one by one in Layer - Curves separately.

I use the GIMP, but yes, same thing is doable. Though tbh it takes long enough to get the ink looking right I don't really care about fiddling with the rest of it!

ETA: Also, I do have the original with me when I'm editing the sketch, but I don't have the inky water anymore, so I don't have anything real to compare what it should look like against.

You're absolutely right, it takes much longer than doing the whole ink review. Some papers never scan in as the right colour, nor do several ink shades.
