This is a very interesting thread and I'm learning a bit about cheaper fountain pens here!!

I'm still kind of new to this hobby and my first pen is the affordable Cross Aventura. From what I read so far on the Internet it seems they are unpopular among fountain pen enthusiasts. I got it from Staples before I researched a lot into pens, and so far it is a very decent writer that gave me no problems. If this pen lasts well I will likely grow to love it as my first pen used to practice fountain pen writing.

Recently I ordered a Platinum Preppy as a backup cheap pen, so we will see!

My first fountain pen was a parker 45 (olive green) and I still love it

I also think the Parker Vector fountain pens were pretty awesome for the price
Unix is user-friendly ; it's just picky about who it's friends are -

The Pilot Metro. After about 2 years of hanging out in the under $100 range entry level pens, and only just the other day ordering my first vintage pen, I've finally started to move into the ~$150 range, and beyond. But I still come back again and again to one of my 4 metros. They aren't the smoothest pens I own, but they're workhorses, and really allowed me to begin exploring different nibs--each time I've gotten one I've gotten a different nib on it.

All I have are F and M on my, er, five? Six? Metros. How many different nibs are they offering now?
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

The Goulets sell a version with a 1.0mm stub (or it may be transplanted from a Plumix). An EF may be transplanted from a Penmanship. That gives EF/F/M/Stub.

Thanks! I think I have a Plumix AND a Penmanship.

I like the Falcons very much. They can hardly be considered a "cheap" pen anymore. I ended up with 2 of them after a friend asked me to source one for him. Their design represents all of the ambition of the "space age".
