    Default Pelikan m400 possible crack?

    Good Afternoon All,

I have recently acquired a pelikan m400 green stripe. When it arrived, I noticed an anomaly on the barrel, it looks as if there was a crack in the barrel. It refracts light like a crack, but I can’t feel it on the outside of the pen. I have a few pics in which i try to make the camera see the issue...

What say you all? Crack or imperfection in molding?

That's probably the seam, not a crack

So I’m guessing it’s a common situation with the m400?

The anomaly, if any, is on the binde - not the barrel. The binde is the colored sleeve fit onto the barrel. For more information, just Google "Pelikan binde". No danger of any leak here. Assuming it's a new pen, if the cosmetics really bother you I suppose you could exchange the body/binde for another. If it were my pen, I would keep and enjoy it.

All Pelikans with such binde have a seam. Some are more visible than others, depending on aligment, but if you check carefully all will have one. It has to do on how the binde is produced. They start with a sheet of material that they roll aroud a shaft and then is welded. I am under the impression the welding process is done using a ultrasonic fricion process.
