Default Old nibs in new pens

    A question:

I have a Parker "Big Red" Duofold (senior I think) that is currently languishing in the classifieds. It's a decent price, IMHO, compared to sales prices on the 'Bay, but it looks as though these aren't generally good sellers these days.

So, I am thinking. Right now a pen maker is drafting up diagrams of a custom pen that is being made for me. Instead of using the usual Jowo #6 implant for this project, is it possible to extract the nib and feed from the Duofold and use that in the custom body? I guess the bit that I don't understand is whether it needs a collar or something, or if it would be better to used the whole section (I don't know what the threading is, or if it can be die cut to the new pen body).

It would be a shame not to use at least some part of this pen to advantage. If it is a viable idea then I won't feel too bad about tossing the body and cap out.

I believe Big Reds are popular amongst GB buyers, perhaps you should approach some of our dealers?

Sorry, I don't really know who you mean by "some of our dealers". I've got very little experience of buying anything other than through eBay, so I don't know if the two equate.

I don’t remember your selling price but, in my opinion it will be a shame to canibalize it for parts. If it isn’t collector quality then it would be a cool user pen. I carry various old user grade pens because they are ‘neat’.

I have been wanting a Big Red Duofold for ages. Could never get one, so last week I settled for a RHR Duofold Juniorette, which I now have to restore and make nice. Worth doing just for the nib.

Final price was $135. It wasn't collector quality, but it writes very nicely. No idea what the model is, either a Senior or Senior Streamline I think, definitely not a junior. It's just sitting in a cup now awaiting its fate.
