Well got this (which I got the rusted spring out of the barrel shortly after the pic)

The style of the nib, the square sac protector, and the gold snorkel tube... I think I got a 1st year Snorkel Sentinel.

Sending it off to my favorite restoration person to make it perfect.

(oh and got that no-name warwick pen with it as it was part of the same auction, don't think it's salvageable but sending it along as well for him to do whatever he pleases to it).

As for the dip pens, well they look interesting but I am entirely unable to use a dip pen, so the nibs I have stay in the drawer I'm afraid.

I am going to buy the same dip pen and hope I can use. I am cross eyed so it shouldnt be a problem

I'm disappointed with the Delta Roma Imperiale blue ripples ebonite piston filler. It's great for craftsmanship but the nib is a nail. That is another Italian brand which I won't buy again.

Osmia faber-castell 661 + pencil, in very good condition, it´s a small but well built pen, and a nice semi-flex nib which is a joy to use.

Unfortunately, i don´t know much about them.

I guess they would be from the fifties but i´m not sure.

It is always difficult for a Mabie Todd addict to resist an early New York example. Here is a Swan 4572. The pen is stamped Mabie Todd & Co New York, but the section is stamped Swan 4500, M.T.B. which suggests that the section was made whilst the company was still called Mabie, Todd and Bard. This ended in 1907 so one might presume that the pen dates form very soon after. Incredibly the pen is still black. 4572 is the designation for a 4500 with No 3 short medium nib. It is fitted with the curious plug feed. Mabie Todd promoted this as a means whereby the pen could be filled without the necessity of unscrewing the section. The nib, being a short one is not very flexible, but writes beautifully as one would expect from Mabie Todd!

hehe... I ordered one a while back as well and put the nib in my Karas Kustoms INK. Being a #5 nib it is easy to swap out with others.

Surprisingly smooth as well as wet !

Can you guys post some writing samples? I have always been curious about how the pens write.

I will be filling it today. My writing is not the best, definitely not as nice as those who do writing samples often to show others. But I will see what I can do.

A wartime MB 134 from the 40's. Definitely a user pen, the stripes on the long inkview window are partly erased and the nib is not historically accurate: it's a 14c B from a 50's MB 344. However it is a very soft writer and the telescoping piston is really amazing. A wee bit longer than a Pelikan M400 this 70+ year old pen has seen a lot of history.

Franklin-Christoph 20. I swapped out a medium stub that I had in a 66. The leather pen pouch is really nice.

I know it's a slip cap but that doesn't stop me from trying to screw off the cap!

happens to me all the time - hard to believe one of those turned small factory pens now comes with a slip cap! Works real well, though!

Something a bit difference. Not a fountain pen but an Ackerman pump pen. Whilst most of you would know this pen, for those who dont, it was invented for use with dip nibs and to overcome the problem of having to continually dip the nib which runs out very quickly. It was also designed to enable artists who use dip pens for drawing to take it outdoors without the problem of having to take their bottles of caligraphy ink with them.
You can buy them with one nib end or as shown in pictures below with two ends. It accommodates most dip nibs and I have tried it and it works very well for me although you have to be a bit careful with leaking. You pull out the nib section and then fill the pen with eye dropper. Pulls apart very easy for cleaning.

You can see the green pressure pump on the side and the nib section can be turned so that you can either use the side of your thumb or your fore finger to pump the pen. Oh sorry. You use a little pressure and ink is forced into the feed. You dont press hard unless you want a large blob on the paper (which some artists want at times) My first test showed that I could write a few sentences before having to give a little pump to recharge the feed. I can recommend it.

One other interesting design is that the chrome clip can be twisted to a position where a small hole in the main body of the pen is opened. This release the pressure from the cap to allow it to be removed easily without drawing out the ink from the nib feed.

One last thing I dont think it is a pen that I would trust in my pocket. As I said above ink can come out of the feed quite easily so I find it is better to stand it with the nib section down or laying flat. Not sure what it costs (maybe about $50 USD) I got my on an Ebay sale in Australia for about $30 AUD

The Waterman Phileus was my first fountain pen a hundred years ago and I'd sold it off. So this used one from FPN qualifies as a "Nostalgia Purchase" but I'd forgotten how well it's mere steel Medium nib writes...
