Amongst other stuff, a couple of bonny Swans: a very early L470/60 with L3 type clip and screw and model number stamped on the twist knob; 18ct cap band. And a SM2/58, one I have wanted to find for a long time. This one came with a No 2 Eternal fitted; it is not fitted now...

Hmmm, guess I'll have to find another recipient for the 2/58 then.

Guessing it's at least 100 years old since it's the "New York" Company before separation in 1915.
Well Mabie Todd & Co New York carried on until 1938 and then moved to New Jersey where the company finally closed down in 1941. I think your pen most likely dates from the late 1920s.

    Lovely thing!

    Thanks.

Not sure if it has any bearing on date, but along the top of the cap it says "SCREW CAP ON TIGHTLY", haven't seen that before on the caps. The guy I got it from said that's a feature from the older safety pen days which is why he assumed early 1910s rather than 1920s.

Oh I don't know; this one will probably move on soon and thus there will be a vacancy. What happens is that Swans fly in, stay a while and then fly out again around here. Funny thing is that some of them seem to prefer to stick around. I thought that the mosaic one would stay, but she is not missed strange to say. The brown amber L3 though is definitely a sticker and there are a few others of that ilk it seems. And I would dearly love a 62!

That is very interesting indeed and I agree that the pen may well date from the teens so I stand corrected. I have a curious Frankenpen, an Advance; this one has a non-original cap which carries the arrow and the message; it has a chromed step clip, just like a Swan's, but it only says Patent Jan 19 1915. Incidentally the nib is non-original too - it's a Toledo Conklin 2 and very nice actually!

Yea mine has the arrow too, just didn't notice it til looked closer. The patent dates on mine only go up to Jan 14th 1913. (Assuming, the 19, 3, and 14 are days)

I bought a used Delta Horsepower for a great price and am sending it off to Nathan Sanchez for a Honey Pot Nib grind. Can't wait for it's return!

It's a marketing term for a really smooth/nice stub by Nathan Sanchez.

KBeezie provided a great answer, however the E-Motion HoneyPot job he performed for me was really more a smooth cursive italic. Hairline horizontal strokes. Great stuff.

The Italix Captains's Commision sorry Churchman's Prescriptor arrived and I'm suitably impressed! Only problem was having not experienced their nibs before, I ordered a M cursive stub which turned out to be way to broad for me but they kindly exchanged for a fine with no hesitation so A+ for customer service. I may need to do a little smoothing myself as the feedback is a little more than I'm used too but all in all a very nice pen. I don't think I'll have any concerns buying from them again. Apologies for the giant pics I'll resize when I have more time.

Sorry I got the name wrong this is indeed the Churchman's Prescriptor. However I think the Captains Commision may well be on my wtb list!

This first year Montblanc 146 with long ink window and O nib is my newest pen. It's definitely one of my best pens.

Just received a Platinum 3776 Century Yamanaka (discussed here http://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread....onstrator-line).

The build quality is about the same as other 3776Cs: good, but not great. The two most notable things are the color and the SM nib. These pens are supposed to have a blue color or tint to them. If mine does, it is only at certain angles and in a certain light; even then I'm not sure. I'd be interested to know the experience of others and how blue their pens are. I don't mind that much as the pen is still very pleasing to the eye whether it is barely blue or just clear.

The SM nib is really what I like best about it. I had heard praise for Platinum's SF nibs on other 3776Cs, but my experience with the two I tried was disappointing. I found them noticeably less soft than various Pilot soft nibs. That isn't the case for the SM nib on my Yamanaka. No, it isn't a flex or even a semi-flex nib (though I'll use the latter term more readily than others will use it). It is closer to that than the SF Platinum nibs I tried and probably even better than those Pilot nibs. It is a fantastic nib. Maybe I just got lucky this time.
